Never Chose

Chapter 5
The night at the hospital was eerily quiet.
I held my phone, turned on the video recording function, and walked out of the
room.
For the past five years, I’ve practically lived for Alpha Kennard–no friends, and those so–called family members definitely wouldn’t help me.
If I want revenge, I’ll have to rely on myself.
So, I planned to take advantage of the hospital staff’s inattention at night and check out the surroundings of my room. It’d help to know the terrain when the time
comes to act.

After exploring the floor, just as I was about to go downstairs, I heard a familiar voice coming from a nearby room.
“Cynthia, don’t blame your sister. She didn’t mean to say those things.”
Hearing that familiar manipulative tone, I paused at the doorway, wanting to see what outrageous things they would say next.
“Don’t be upset, Cynthia. I know you’re hurt, but Emma’s injured. It’s normal for her to feel bad. Once she recovers a little, I’ll take you somewhere nice, okay?”
“Recover?” Alpha Cynthia’s tone shifted, laced with impatience. “but how to explain things to her? She’ll take forever to get better.”
Alpha Kennard’s laugh was light, almost

dismissive.
“It won’t take long. Once she’s in a better mood, we’ll leave and let the nanny take care of her. I’ll just tell her I’m going on a business trip, like before.”
Business trip?
I smirked coldly. No wonder Alpha Kennard has been going on business trips every few days for the past five years. I always wondered how the Shadow Pack had so much going on.
Now The Shadow Pack’s supposed constant crises suddenly made perfect sense. Alpha Kennard wasn’t managing his pack–he was managing his mistress.
The rage simmering in my chest threatened to boil over, but I forced myself to stay

rooted, my hand trembling against the wall.
Just as I turned to leave, Alpha Cynthia’s next words stopped me cold.
“So, does my sister know I hired the rogues?”

My heart stopped.
What?
It felt like lightning had struck me from head to toe.
Alpha Kennard‘ response only further shattered my perception of him.
“She’ll never find out. I’ve already signed the declaration of understanding, and that rogues family’s been relocated far away. It’ll remain our little secret.”
4/7
My vision blurred with tears, but I blinked them away, listening with every ounce of self–control I could muster.
“Thank you, Alpha Kennard. You’re so good to me.”
Alpha Cynthia cooed, “It’s just that you haven’t come to see me lately, and I thought you didn’t care anymore. That’s why I came up with such an idea.”
“How could I not care? I’ve just been really busy. But you’re not allowed to use such dangerous methods again, understand? You scared me to death.“he scolded lightly.
“And Emma got seriously hurt because of it, he added, almost as an afterthought.
Alpha Cynthia was silent for a moment before responding angrily. “It’s not my fault

she struggled so much. If she hadn’t fought back, she wouldn’t have been beaten. In the end, she forced those rogues to resort to wolfsbane, and that’s what made everything spiral out of control.”

I stood at the door, my heart growing colder and more numb by the second.
No wonder.
No wonder Alpha Kennard signed the understanding agreement while I was in a
coma.
No wonder the rogues only targeted me while Alpha Cynthia remained unharmed.
Everything was arranged!
I gasped for air, the wound on my left arm tearing with pain, yet it was nothing

compared to the ache in my heart.
I slipped my phone into my pocket, my recording complete. The shaky breaths I took didn’t ease the suffocating ache in my chest.
Without making a sound, I backed away from the doorway and returned to my room.
I had originally thought of confronting them here, exposing their lies in the hospital.
Not anymore. I have a more fitting plan to punish them both.
