Never Chose

Chapter 2
When I opened my eyes again, I clearly sensed that my left arm was immobile.
My whole body was covered in bandages, a testament to the horrific abuse I’d endured.
But none of that mattered now. What
mattered was that I could no longer control my left arm.
The realization hit me like a cold bucket of water, chilling me to the bone.
My wolf stirred weakly in the back of my mind, still too drained to offer comfort.
“Emma?” A familiar voice snapped me from my thoughts. Alpha Kennard called my name excitedly, his face looming above me.
“You’re awake! How are you feeling? Are you uncomfortable anywhere?”

I looked at him, my voice icy cold.
“What happened to my arm?”
Alpha Kennard paused, his expression uneasy as he averted his gaze to the vase beside my bed.
“This flower has been here for a while, let me get you a fresh one. And are you hungry at all…”
“Enough!”
I shouted as much as my voice would allow, still hoarse and unpleasant.
“Tell me, what happened to my arm? Am I a cripple now?”
2/10
“Alpha Kennard, say something!”
His shoulders sagged under the weight of my words. Setting the vase down, he reached for my good hand and cradled it gently.
“It’s… it’s temporary. I’ll bring in the best pack doctors, the finest resources. You’ll heal, Emma. Please, don’t be upset.”
“Don’t be upset?” I echoed, my voice trembling with fury.
How can I not be sad?
It’s a part of me!
I stared intently at Alpha Kennard, tears long dried up, leaving only a profound sense of sadness and despair.
3/10
“Why?”
“It was clearly easier to kill the rogues from Alpha Cynthia‘ side, and we weren’t even that close. Your aim is so good, you could have shot him from the middle. Why did you shoot through my arm?”
He flinched but said nothing for a moment. Finally, he muttered, “Shooting from the middle still had risks, and I wanted to be sure…”
“Sure for whom? Alpha Cynthia‘ safety?”
I looked at him in disbelief.
He lowered his head, avoiding my gaze, and spoke softly, “Cynthia’s health is fragile; she can’t endure any harm…”
4/10
So just to avoid any harm to Alpha Cynthia, he chose to sacrifice me?
My wolf stirred again, this time with a flicker of anger. She growled low in my mind, urging me to fight back.
For the first time, I felt estranged from the man I had shared a bed with for five years.
My heart sank little by little.
I leaned back against the bed, utterly devoid of strength.
Suddenly, I thought of the rogues.

“What about the rogues who kidnapped us? A shot to the right chest shouldn’t have killed him instantly, right?”
I was accustomed to my mate’s apathy, no
5/10
longer even having the urge to question him.
I only wanted to find the rogues who
kidnapped us and ensure he paid for what he did.
To my surprise, Alpha Kennard evaded this question too, giving me no answer.
“Is he dead?” I asked, puzzled.
“No, he’s not.
“Then where is he now? How was he dealt
with?”
Alpha Kennard lowered his head, avoiding eye contact.
Just then, the door to my room was knocked.
When it opened, four or five rogues entered,
6/10
resembling a family.
They rushed in, kneeling by my bedside.
“Luna Emma, thank you for signing the letter of forgiveness. We truly appreciate it.”
“These are some things we’ve prepared for you, please accept them.”
Letter of forgiveness?
“What letter of forgiveness?”
I asked the middle–aged woman holding the fruit basket.
She paused, speaking softly, “It’s the letter you signed yesterday, agreeing to let go of rogues who kidnapped you.”
I felt a surge of anger burning away my
7/10
rationality.
Seeing Alpha Kennard silent beside me, what more was there to understand?
“Did you sign the letter of forgiveness on my behalf? Alpha Kennard, on what grounds?”
“Cynthia talked to the rogues,” he began, trying to sound reasonable. “The rogue was forced into it. He’s not a threat anymore, but he’ll still face consequences-
”
Something inside me snapped.
I grabbed the vase he’d just put down and smashed it towards him.
He stood unmoving, letting me hit and smash.
The people around were frightened and
8/10
quickly came to hold me back.
But like a madwoman, I grabbed everything within reach with my free hand and hurled it at him.
Finally, when there was nothing left to throw, I sat on the bed, gasping for breath, my wounds reopening, blood soaking through the bandages, a frightening shade of red.
Alpha Kennard strode forward, his grip closing around my hand as if I were the one being unreasonable.
“Emma, please. Don’t let anger cloud
your
judgment. Everything I’ve done has been for
your sake.”
“For my sake?” I laughed bitterly, tears threatening to spill. “You think this is what’s best for me?”
9/10
His silence was answer enough.
What a colossal joke.
My heart ached as if pierced by needles.
They showed mercy, but what about me?
Why wasn’t I consulted?
I looked at him, eyes bloodshot.
“Alpha Kennard, let’s get a divorce and dissolve the mate bond.”
I will make sure you all pay for this.
I’ll reclaim everything I’m owed, one by one.
