As Tyler entered my room, holding a soup, I had already finished the chicken soup my dad brought.}
Standing against the doorway, Tyler glared at me with frustration. “Seriously, Zoey? You’re just doing this to get under my skin, aren’t you? Do you even realize how busy I am every single day?“}
I shot him a look, not even pretending to care anymore.”
Tyler pressed on as he explained, “Jessica’s dealing with a complicated pregnancy, and she needs attention. And you? You’re in perfect health and still want me to take care of you. Can you maybe show a little sympathy for me?”
He then extended the bowl toward me, but I didn’t even flinch.
I grabbed it, sneered, and threw it right at his face. “Get lost, Tyler. You’re worse than a pig!“}
The bowl slammed against his forehead, and blood started dripping down his face.}
He winced, clearly pissed, and slapped a hand on his forehead. “Zoey, what the hell is going on with you? Why are you acting like this? Where’s that sweet, innocent woman I married?“}
I scoffed and crossed my arms, my anger rising. “Wolves like you don’t need sweetness, Tyler. They need a shotgun.“>
He stared at me, eyes wide with disbelief. “Are you trying to piss me off on purpose? You trashed the office, ruined Jessica’s emerald bracelet, and hit her. You need a lesson. Besides, you’re fine, aren’t you? I just wanted you to realize what you’ve done. I never actually wanted you locked up.”
laughed bitterly. “Is that so? Should I thank you for your kindness? For letting me off the hook and teaching me how to behave?“} That day, my dad’s lawyer had already presented evidence proving that the company was funded by me, which meant I was just damaging my own property.
As for Jessica’s so–called emerald bracelet, there was no way someone like her, coming from a humble background, would have something so valuable. And even if she did, it was probably something she could sell.
An appraisal later confirmed it. The bracelet was a cheap imitation worth no more than 0 from a street vendor.
And as for the assault?
It was simple.
Jessica had barged into my home, provoking me, so I struck back.
Self–defense, right??
I glanced down at the papers in front of me, grabbed the stack, and slapped them onto Tyler’s face. “I should’ve taught certain people a lesson a long time ago. Otherwise, I might just end up raising a wolf that bites the hand that feeds it.”
Tyler stared at the documents, a bewildered expression clouding his face.
His face became obscured as he flipped through them, before finally muttering, “Zoey, Jessica must be struggling with money. That’s why she acted impulsively. She’s still young and pregnant. Two thousand a month for pocket money is too little. I’ll talk to her. If she needs money, she can come to me directly, not take it from the company.”
I couldn’t help it. I laughed, a cruel, dry sound. “Tyler, didn’t you say that business is business, and personal is personal? Why is it, then, that your woman can steal from the company and you won’t do a damn thing about it? You won’t call the cops? You won’t make her understand what’s wrong?”
Tyler grabbed my hand, his voice rising with desperation. “Zoey, look at her. She’s just a young girl. Why are you making such a fuss over this? She might have taken the money to support her parents. She simply wanted to help her family. Let’s not escalate this situation. I’l have a chat with her and advise her not to do it again.”
I yanked my hand out of his grip, feeling the weight of exhaustion hit me like a wave.
‘How could I have overlooked his selfishness?‘
How could he lack a sense of right and wrong?‘
Maybe I’d trusted him too much.
Blinded by love, I never truly saw him for who he really was.
With a cold stare, I refuted, “Tyler, I’m the one whom you sent to the police. They’ve taught me the difference between right and wrong. You said you love me, right? Please, let’s keep business separate from personal matters. Take Jessica to the police station yourself and let them handle it.
Tyler’s face grew somber, his brows knitting together in exasperation. “Zoey, Jessica is pregnant with our child. Do you really need to pressure me like this? Can’t you simply step back?”
