The busy and fulfilling days didn’t last long before my colleague had new news.
“Mr. Mark went to find you. Yesterday he flew into a huge rage, tore up the client’s contract, and chased them out. In the afternoon, he hurriedly bought a ticket, and this morning he didn’t come to work.”
My hand paused as I was processing an order, but then I continued to do my own thing as if nothing had happened.
I hadn’t told anyone my current address, what was I afraid of?
But I don’t know if it was psychological, for the next few days, I always felt like there was a pair of eyes staring at me from the shadows.
That gaze was scorching and piercing, impossible to ignore.
Just as I was feeling anxious, a figure pushed open the glass door of the pet store.
“Welcome, what would you like to buy?” I said the welcome greeting before I even looked up.
“Rachel.” A low, familiar voice sounded, and the smile that had just appeared on my face slowly disappeared.
“What are you doing here?”
Looking at Mark’s unshaven face and messy hair, I couldn’t help but think of the well–dressed, clean man he used to be.
The difference between then and now was so great that I couldn’t recognize him for a moment.
“Rachel, come back with me.” Mark’s eyes were bloodshot, his voice hoarse.
“You blocked me, it took me a long time to find you, how could you be so heartless…”
As he spoke, he reached out to grab me, and I quickly stepped back.
“Mark, we’re divorced.” These words were like a stone, pressing Mark’s waist to bend even more.
“Let’s remarry, I’ll give you whatever you want… It was all my fault before, I was impulsive, don’t leave me…”
“I misunderstood you in the past, I was wrong, I shouldn’t have believed others without investigating clearly, can you forgive me?”
“Forgive me, let’s remarry, go back to how we were before, okay?”
I looked at him, my face full of mockery.
“You think I divorced you because you wronged me? No, that was just the last straw! Your heart had already strayed, and you didn’t care about me as a person at all. Coming here now pretending to care, it’s just because you think I’m more useful than Olivia.”
Mark’s expression twisted together, painful and hideous.
I continued: “You think it’s just one project? No, there’s also our wedding anniversary, and the time you abandoned me in the hospital, and…”
I counted one by one, and Mark’s pain increased bit by bit.
He crouched down in pain, pulling his hair, choking: “I didn’t know… I didn’t know you had suffered so many grievances… It’s my fault, I neglected you too much…
“I’m sorry Rachel, I thought… I thought there were so many doctors in the hospital, you would be fine, I didn’t think…”
“But our feelings of so many years, can you really let go just like that? I never wanted to divorce, I just thought I’d cancel the application after you calmed down, who knew…
I interrupted him: “You always do this, letting me calm down on my own, letting me comfort myself. Why is it always me who has to digest these things?”
“You think this solves the problems in our marriage?”
“No, it doesn’t solve them, those problems just keep piling up, eventually becoming a snowball that crushed me.”
I took a deep breath, suppressing the disgust in my heart, and said coldly:
“You should go. I feel sick just looking at you now.”
