Cathy watched Alyssa come out of Andrew’s room with a wide smile. Knowing Alyssa was becoming too much of a threat, made her heart pounding. If Cathy had not taken action soon, Alyssa might have entirely stolen her place.
Cathy then called Sarah, asking her to come over, “Sarah, please come to my room.”
Later, Sarah came over, responding to Cathy quickly.
As she appeared, Cathy glanced up with an icy stare and asked, “Why hasn’t the design draft for the new product launch been submitted yet?”
Noticing that coldness, Sarah quickly deflected her responsibility. “I wasn’t the one handling the design draft. It is Alyssa’s duty,” she replied.
Cathy dropped her voice colder. “I don’t care who I gave it to. I expect that draft on my desk before the end of the day,” she prompted firmly.
Afraid of the rage, Sarah quickly responded, “Alright, I will check with her now. Alyssa has been dragging this out for days and still has not gotten the design draft yet.” She was trying to shift the blame, worrying Cathy would blame her for not getting the job done.
Cathy glanced at her and replied more calmly, “Since it’s Ms. Dawson’s responsibility, let her handle it. However, she has joined our office and under your guidance, you’re also responsible for keeping an eye on her.”
Sarah nodded, a bit puzzled, unsure of what Cathy was getting at.
Sarah then headed out from Cathy’s room and immediately snapped at Alyssa, “Are you qualified for this job? I told you to follow up with the design department, where is the design draft? Stop sitting around and get it! You must have the draft before the end of the day!”
Without any hesitation, Alyssa took that responsibility and headed straight to the design department.
Sarah seemed anxious that Alyssa might not get the design draft. Additionally, Cathy had haunted her of being lack of supervising Alyssa. She then called the design manager on her own. “Mr. Sanders, why haven’t the design drafts for the new product launch been submitted yet? Ms. Carlson just made it clear they need to be in before the end of the day. It sounds like an ultimatum. Please, make sure this gets handled yourself,” she said.
“By the end of today?” Everett hesitated. “Alright, we’ll do our best,” he continued reluctantly.
“This isn’t about trying your best, Mr. Sanders. It has to be done today!” Sarah replied firmly.
Everett sighed deeply and replied, “By the end of the day, I got it!”
“Another thing, Ms. Dawson from our office is down in your department. When the drafts are ready, hand them to her so she can bring them up right away,” Sarah added.
“Understood,” Everett replied before hanging up the phone and rushing for the design drafts.
As the workday finished, the design drafts had not been handed in. Having no other option, Everett called Cathy personally to explain the situation, letting her know the design drafts would have to be delivered first thing the next morning.
Surprisingly, Cathy appeared diplomatic and agreed to the situation. “No problem, I’ll talk to Mr. Coleman for you. Don’t worry about it,” She spoke politely.
But Cathy had her scheme. While she assured the design department there was no rush, she made Alyssa keep pressing about the design drafts, knowing it would make the design department resent Alyssa.

However, Cathy did not realize that Alyssa did not rush anyone either. Since both of them were not rushing anyone, Sarah was the one scrambling. As a result, the design department ended up disliking Sarah.
As Everett clocked out for the work, he handed off the design drafts to Tamera Dixon. Although Tamera was still just a design assistant and not a full–fledged designer, those chores typically fell to her. Her last overtime also happened due to a mountain of similar chores.
