Chapter 39
Adeline West
The next morning, I woke up feeling a slight headache.
Of course, you didn’t sleep properly last night.
Runa sald
Yeah, I should have just slept early. I replied and groaned while getting up and heading to my bathroom. After having a cold shower, I headed to the kid’s room and saw them already up and with Mary.
“Hey dear, good morning.” She greeted me.
“Good morning, Mary.” I said,

“Good morning, Mom.” Bridget and Tristan came to me. I bent down and hugged them both, kissing their cheeks while greeting them back.
“What happened? Didn’t you sleep well last night?” She asked, looking at me with worry in her eyes.
“Yeah, I said. “Only your hot coffee can fix my mood, I guess.” I added.
“Let’s get downstairs; I’ll make it for you” She smiled.
We headed downstairs. As soon as Sebastian appeared, my kids ran to him, their faces lighting up with joy.
“Uncle Sebastian!” They ran to him,
“Good morning.” He greeted them with a charming smile, scooping them up into a big hug, I walked towards him with a smile on my face.
“Good morning. Adeline,” he greeted me with a hug, asking. “How was your night?”
“It was good,” I replied, feeling warm comfort in his presence.
“You don’t look good; is everything alright?” He asked, holding my hand, his eyes filled with concern and affection.
“I just slept late, reading a book.” I replied.
Lie! Such a liar! Tell him what you were thinking about!
Runa yelled in my head.
Shut up, Runa!
I yelled back.
“Reading a book?” He titled his head, his hazel eyes looking into it. “Was it that interesting?” He asked.
Yeah, it was.” Flied,
He chuckled at my answer, shaking his head.
“What Fasked,
“Nothing,” he said, still chuckling

Chapter 39
But suddenly, the annosphere in the dining room shifted. The warm, lovely ambiance dissipated like a flame snuffed out by a cold wind. The air grew heavy and dark, an unsettling tension spreading through the room. The air was heavy and dark. Sebastian’s eyes
shifted from me to someone behind me. The smile on his face dropped, and his expression turned serious Confused. I glanced at Greta, Mary, and Abigail, who were also standing and looking at the same person.
I turned and saw Killian standing at the base of the stairs, with an air of utter dominance around him. His expression was stoic as usual, and his gray hunter eyes locked onto Sebastian with a predatory intensity that sent a shiver down my spine.
The staring contest between them was intense, like two alpha wolves trying to assert their dominance through mere presence. Their gazes alone conveyed a raw, unspoken challenge I found myself caught in the middle, not quite. understanding what was happening. Killian walked down the stairs, his gaze never leaving Sebastian. I glanced back at Sebastian and saw him holding Killian’s gaze without blinking.
The pressure in the room was suffocating, and my throat dried up as Killian drew closer. The aura of dominance radiating from Killian was so powerful that everyone around him seemed forced to submit. My legs began to shiver under the intensity of it all.
Stay still, Adeline!! I cursed myself for my weakness, forcing myself to stand tall
The atmosphere was so gense, like one wrong move could lead to disaster.

Suddenly, Bridget’s sweet voice broke the trance.
“Toy man” She called, rushing to Killian and tugging at the tip of his coat.
She looked so tiny beside the towering alpha male. Killian glanced down at her, then back at Sebastian and me, before turning his full attention to Bridget.
His expression softened slightly as he crouched down to her level. ‘Good morning, sweetheart,” he greeted her, his voice softening. How was your night?” He asked, looking at her, the serious look on his face melting while he gazed at my daughter.
“It was good,” Bridget replied cheerfully. “Mommy read a story for us, and I slept soon,” she said. “And I dreamed about the princess, the toys and the big house; it was so good and I loved it She beamed. Her innocence is a stark contrast to the heavy atmosphere.
A faint smile tugged at Killian’s lips. “That sounds like a wonderful dream,” he said.
over.
ome meet Toy Man.” She turned to Tristan and urged him to come ov
“Tristan, comp
Tristan walked up to Killian, glancing at him skeptically, then looking at me for reassurance. I nodded, urging him to join his sister. Bridget, in her innocent excitement, introduced Killian to Tristan, explaining who he was.
“This is Toy Man,” she said, beaming. “He helped me buy toys for you at the hospital.”
Tristan looked up at Killian, his skepticism melting into gratitude. “Thank you,” he said, a small smile forming on his lips
Killian’s gaze softened slightly as he looked down at Tristan. “You re welcome,” he replied, his tone gentler than I’d ever heard before. “I’m glad I could help. He added.
From the corner of my eyes, I noticed Greta and Abigail shocked and utterly surprised at Killian, looking at him in wonder. The tension in the room seemed to ease a little with Briget and Killian’s conversation, but it wasn’t gone entirely. I could feel the underlying hostility between Killian and Sebastian. It was still there, simmering just below the surface. I could really feel it, and I knew this was far from over.
I could feel Sebastian’s protective presence behind me and Killian’s unwavering dominance in front of me. It was a precarious balance, and I was caught in the middle.
Killian stood up, his eyes meeting mine briefly before he walked to the dining table. As we all moved to the dining table,

Chapter 39
trying to settle into some semblance of normalcy, Greta and Abigail had prepared a delicious breakfast, and the smell of freshly baked bread and sizzling bacon filled the air. Sebastian took his seat next to me, his demeanor calm but alert, while Killian sat across from us, his eyes never straying far from me and Sebastian.
As we ate, the conversation was strained. The children’s chatter was the only thing keeping the atmosphere from becoming unbearably tense. Bridget and Tristan talked excitedly about their plans for the day; their innocent enthusiasm was a stark contrast to the charged air between the adults.
Sebastian finally broke the silence. Thank you for allowing us to stay here, Alpha Killian,” he said, his voice steady and respectful.
“It’s temporary.” Killian nodded curtly
I could feel the tension mounting again. “We appreciate it, I added, trying to diffuse the situation. “We’ll be out of your way as soon as this matter is resolved.” I added
Killian’s eyes flicked to mine, a mix of emotions swirling in their depths. “See that you do. He said.
Arrogant!
I muttered internally.
