Her Perfect Life After Divorce

Chapter 73: Gemma’s Deadliest Weapon
Wilson’s CEO’s Office
Mabel gently massaged Marcus’s temples.
Her background in medicine made her skilled at this
Thanks to her efforts, the searing pain in Marcus’s head–like his nerves were being sawed off–finally eased a little
“Max, here’s some incense I made for you. It’ll give you a nice energy boost.”
She lit the incense, and soon, the office filled with a calming blend of agarwood and sandalwood.
The soothing aroma helped untangle the tension in Marcus’s mind
With his eyes half–closed, the heavy lines on his face slowly softened.

He reached out, pulling Mabel into his arms.
“You’re the best.”
For once, his chaotic thoughts stilled
Over the past three days, Wilsons had spent a fortune–billions, even–just to stabilize their partners and workers.
But in those same three days, not only had Gemma not come to apologize, but she’d also walized off to her job at the hospital as if nothing had happened.
“I did nothing. After all, Gemma healed your eyes back then.
That was a huge deal,” Mabel said, carefully observing Marcus’s expression.
When he didn’t seem inclined to interrupt, she continued.
“Although, I once asked my mentor about your condition. He said it was physiological and would’ve healed with time” “Gemma does know a lot, though. And to stick around, waiting for you to get better.”
Marcus’s face darkened
Gemma was a
a genius in medicine.
She also had extensive knowledge of ophthalmology.
In the past, she always claimed she’d done so much for his eyes.
Now, it seemed she’d merely known all along that he’d recover eventually. She’d just taken a gamble–staying by his side in the hopes of becoming Mrs. Wilson.
If she won, she’d secure that title as Mrs. Wilson.
If she lost, she’d still walk away with alimony.
Either way, she wouldn’t lose out
Anger surged through Marcus again-
Not at Gemma’s deception.
But at himself for even considering going to her first.
“Marcus, are you okay?”
Mabel had deliberately left her words hanging earlier to give him room to think.
“I’m fine.”
Marcus had planned to send her back–her being at the company could attract attention.
But now, because of Gemma, he couldn’t muster the energy to care.
“Massage my forehead again.”
“Of course”
Mabel leaned closer, her hands soft and gentle as she resumed the massage.
Chapter 78. Gemma’s Deadliest Weapon
Gemma had just finished taking some photos and giving an interview with the hospital’s PR team when she finally got a
moment alone with Brian
“Gemma, I’ve been meaning to apologize,” Brian started.
“Last time, when I got into that fight with Mr. Wilson, I lost my temper. It was reckless.
Luckily, there weren’t many people around, or it could’ve ruined your reputation. I’d never forgive myself.”
Gemma stared at the tips of her shoes, speaking sofily.
“Brian, actually, I should be the one apologizing. My divorce ended up dragging you into this mess.
I know you’ve always treated me as a junior colleague and looked out for me.
That day, Marcus was being a jerk, and you only spoke up for me to have my back.
But don’t worry!”
She lifted her head, her tone firm.
“I promise I won’t cling to you because of this.”
Brian froze.
His voice tinged with bitterness.
“Is that what you think?”
Gemma had never considered the idea that Brian might like her.
Back then, his actions seemed more about protecting her and embarrassing Marcus.
After leaving with Cassius, she hadn’t even thought much about Brian’s words
To her, they were meaningless.

She figured she’d clear the air eventually, and they’d go back to being good colleagues.
But so much had happened since then, leaving her no chance to explain.
“Fair enough,” Brian said, masking his disappointment.
“As long as you’re not feeling burdened I was worried..
Worried that if he revealed his true feelings, even their friendship would be lost.
Gemma let out a relieved sigh.
Thank goodness she wasn’t the type to overthink things.
Otherwise, this would’ve been another huge misunderstanding.
“Tm tougher than I look, so relax.”
Brian decided to drop the subject.
He was not that tough inside.
Winning a rose takes patience and care, he thought.
Otherwise, you either fail to get the rose or end up pricked by its thorns.
Shifting his gaze elsewhere, he asked her.
“How’s the divorce coming along?”
Gemma shrugged. “Should be done in about three days.”
After a quick calculation, she added, “By next Monday at the latest, I’ll be free.”
Brian’s heart stirred.
Starting next Monday, he’d take his time.
Little by little, he’d win her heart and her love.
“Well, let me wish you all
you
all the best in advance.”
Chapter 73. Gemma’s Deadliest Weapon
“Thanks, Brian.”
“Oh, by the way, there’s a medical seminar coming up. Interested?”
“Definitely.”
“I’ll keep an eye out and recommend you if there’s an opening.”
“Thanks, Brian
“Don’t mention it. Just remember to pull me along when you become famous.”
Gemma grinned. “Of course! You too, Brian.”
Brian chuckled despite himself.
This kind of relationship was fine for now.
At least he could still stay by her side as her closest male friend.
People often say there’s a thin line between friendship and love.
Slow and steady wins the race.
After their chat, Gemma went to drop something off at the gynecology department and ran into Mabel, who was there for a checkup.
“Dr. Kelestine, what a coincidence!”
Mabel said with a mocking smile, waving her test results.
Gemma kept her gaze forward, pretending not to hear.
But Mabel wasn’t about to let her off that easily.
She stepped directly into Gemma’s path.
Back when she was merely Marcus’s first love, Mabel had to tread carefully, fawning over the Wilson family and even acting subservient in front of Gemma.
Now, her patience had finally paid off
“Why so silent, Dr. Kelestine?
Gemma glanced at her, her voice cold. “Good dogs don’t block the way.”
Mabel’s smile faltered. “Did y
you just insult me. Gemma?!”
“No, that wasn’t aimed at you. Just the dogs.
“Gemmal
“What’s wrong, Ms. Johnson? So short–tempered–could it be rabies?”
Mabel nearly exploded with anger.
She hadn’t realized how sharp–tongued Gemma could be
But why should she stoop to the level of someone she’d already beaten?
With a smirk, Mabel taunted.
“You’re just jealous. That’s why you came to the gynecology department–to snoop on why I’m here, right?
Don’t bother. I can show you my test results
Gemma glanced briefly at the paper and raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Mabel, misinterpreting her reaction, felt triumphant.
“Figured it out? It’s all because Marcus is so passionate. I even told him to take it easy, but he wouldn’t listen. He said some people are just boring and dull, and he can’t stand it.
He’s been wearing me out so much I had to come for a checkup. And now he’s sulking because he’ll have to live like a monk
for a while.”
She giggled coyly, waiting for Gemma to lose it.
