Jarrett’s words snapped Kieran back to reality. “What are you waiting for? Turn the car around now!”
“Yes,
Mr. Sutton.” Without hesitation, Jarrett executed a swift U–turn.
As Kieran’s headlights pierced the darkness, they saw Freya and Preston stepping into a car outside Echo City University, one after the
other.
Kieran’s expression darkened immediately.
Jarrett, who was behind the wheel, was also taken aback when Preston glanced their way before getting into his car, as if deliberately trying to provoke them.
Kieran looked even more upset. Jarrett ventured, “Mr. Sutton… maybe we should…”
et’s go!” Kieran cut him off sharply, “From now on, I have nothing to do with Freya!”
Seeing Kieran so enraged, Jarrett swallowed the words he had intended to say in Freya’s defense.
By then, Freya had gotten into Preston’s car, and Preston had undressed his jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
Freya hugged the jacket around herself and said, “Thank you, Mr. Tyler. I’ll wash it and return it to you tomorrow.”
“Just toss it. I don’t wear clothes someone else has worn,” Preston replied indifferently.
Freya smiled at him, saying nothing more.
“But Kieran saw you getting into my car,” Preston mentioned nonchalantly.
“What?”
Freya leaned forward to look out the window, but Preston added, “The car’s long gone.”
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“What for? Or did you want to take his car?”
Freya shook her head. She didn’t want to ride in anyone’s car, but if she had to choose, she’d rather be in Preston’s.
Half an hour later, Preston’s car stopped in front of the Dawson family home.
Restless from Kieran’s phone call, Johanna rushed out when she heard noises outside.
Seeing Freya step out of Preston’s car, Johanna hurried over and scolded, “Where on earth have you been, you reckless girl?”
As Johanna spoke, she glimpsed Preston’s profile through the car window before it rolled up and the vehicle drove away.
Noticing the men’s jacket on Freya and her disheveled appearance, Johanna’s expression darkened. “Did you mess around with some guy? Freya, that’s shameless! Do you know how many times Mr. Sutton called? How could you…”
“Sneak off with some man?” Freya stepped closer to Johanna, and her gaze turned icy. “Johanna, you dare say anything.”
“What… what’s with that look?” Johanna took a step back, confused by the turn of events.
Freya continued coldly, “Leland had me kidnapped to Echo City University, intending to assault me and force me to hand over the Dawson family’s assets and business. Did you instruct him to do that as well?”
Johanna was momentarily speechless. What? How could Leland do something like that?
