“Hey, what are you doing?” Aaron’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
Aveline looked up to see Selena releasing Aaron and walking toward her. Selena took Aveline’s hand, looking concerned. “Ave,
everything will be alright.”
Despite always criticizing Lucas, Selena knew that Aveline loved him deeply. Even now, determined as she was to get a divorce, it was hard to believe she could stop loving someone she had once loved so passionately. It was all just a façade.
“Selena!” Aaron’s annoyed voice came through. “Do you not realize I’m dizzy? Do you want to see me fall and get hurt?”
Selena turned to him. “If you know you’re dizzy, why aren’t you staying in your hospital room?”
Aaron, frustrated, cradled his head in his hands. Aveline turned to Selena and said, “Don’t act like that. The faster he recovers, the sooner you’ll be free.”
Selena bit her lip and suddenly said to Aaron, “Wait here.” Then she turned and walked away.
Aaron frowned. “Where are you going?”
Selena didn’t answer and quickly left.
Aaron looked at Aveline. “Your friend seems a bit unreliable.”
Aveline responded, “Maybe you should hire a nurse. If you don’t

trust her, what if she hurts you while taking care of you?”
Aaron smiled. “No need. She’s fine. If she hurts me, she’ll have to keep taking care of me.”
Aveline fell silent.
Five minutes later, Selena reappeared, this time pushing a wheelchair. She brought it right behind Aaron.
“Come on, sit,” she said.
Aaron looked at the wheelchair and then at Selena’s face. “My legs aren’t broken.”
Selena blinked. “Aren’t you dizzy? Sitting in this will help. Besides, your legs aren’t broken now, but who knows, they might be
someday. You can get used to it early.”
Aaron fell silent.
His head started hurting again!
Their conversation broke the oppressive atmosphere at the emergency room door.
After about two hours, the door to the emergency room opened.
A hospital bed was pushed out, with Lucas lying on it. His face was pale, his lips devoid of any color, and an oxygen mask was strapped to his face. He was still unconscious.
“Doctor, how is my son?” Frederick immediately asked when he saw
the scene.
The doctor replied, “The toxins are under control, but it will take some time to fully detoxify. For now, he seems to be out of danger.”
Frederick let out a sigh of relief. “That’s good.
Lucas was now his only son.
This son must not face any more incidents.
In the VIP hospital room, everyone kept a close watch on Lucas.
Yvonne looked at Lucas and then turned her gaze to Aveline, asking, “Aveline, are you okay? Do you want to go home and rest? Tonight’s events must have scared you.”
Frederick frowned and looked at Aveline, suddenly saying, “Get out. She’s not allowed in here!”
Yvonne was taken aback. “Honey, what are you doing? Aveline is Lucas’s wife.”
Frederick’s expression darkened. “If it wasn’t for her, how could Lucas be poisoned? I suspect she’s the one who did it! Not having her arrested for questioning is already lenient on my part,
considering Lucas. If the investigation proves she poisoned him, I won’t let her get away with it!”
