The earthquake lasted for about a minute and a half. The impact had left the mountain in ruins within
moments. A crack split through the mountainside, exposing tangled roots, while trees leaned precariously in all directions.
Rosalie suffocated under the debris. She struggled to free one hand and desperately patted Sebastian’s face.
“Sebastian? Sebastian?”
Sebastian’s eyes remained closed, and blood continued to pour from his wounds.
Rosalie hadn’t expected him to shield her like this at such a moment.
If this had happened in the past, she would have been deeply moved. But now, when she thought about everything Sebastian had done to her, any trace of emotion instantly vanished.
She truly wished Sebastian would just die.

Rosalie turned her gaze toward Nana’s direction, and tears gushed down her face.
She gritted her teeth and tried to free herself, but the moment she struggled, the surrounding rocks suddenly collapsed, crushing her arm.
Rosalie screamed in pain. She dared not move again, fearing that any further movement would trigger another landslide and make the situation worse.
After more than ten minutes, Sebastian’s subordinates finally arrived.
More than ten hours later…
“Rose, don’t be afraid! I’m here… Rose!”
Sebastian abruptly opened his eyes and found himself in a hospital.
“Mr. Carter, you’re awake.” A bodyguard stepped forward with concern.
Sebastian immediately asked, “Where’s Rose?”
The bodyguard replied, “Don’t worry, Mr. Carter. Miss Young is fine. She suffered only minor injuries, and the doctor has already treated her. She’s currently with Nana in another room.”
Hearing that Rosalie was safe, Sebastian relaxed slightly. But when he thought of Nana, his brows furrowed. “That little girl…she survived?”
His tone was devoid of warmth, as if he weren’t speaking about his daughter but a stranger.
The bodyguard answered, “She’s alive, but the doctors said her right leg was severely infected, and they had no choice but to amputate.”
Sebastian frowned slightly. “That girl is lucky.”
Although he had spent a few days with her and developed a slight attachment, she wasn’t his
biological child. His entire focus was on Rosalie, leaving little room for anything else.
Sebastian attempted to sit up, but his whole body ached and his head was spinning.
“Mr. Carter, you need to rest. The doctor said you have a fractured arm and a concussion. You must take it easy for a few days.”
“Ask Rose to come here. I want to see her.”
“Yes, Mr. Carter. Please lie down and rest, I’ll bring Miss Young right away.”
Just as the bodyguard was about to leave, Sebastian called out, “Come back.”
The bodyguard turned around. “Mr. Carter, do you have any other instructions?”
“From now on, call her ‘Mrs. Carter,’ not ‘Miss Young.’ Understood?”
The bodyguard nodded. “Understood. I will go and fetch Mrs. Carter now.”
Sebastian let out a satisfied hum. “Go.”
Meanwhile, Rosalie was sitting next to Nana’s bed, gently holding her tiny hand.
Nana was still unconscious. Her leg had been amputated below her
knee. Her body was covered in severe wounds, and the doctors said it was a miracle that she had even survived.
Rosalie was fitted with guilt. If only she hadn’t let Nana walk ahead of them. If only she had struggled harder to break free from Sebastian and gone to save Nana herself maybe the child wouldn’t have been hurt so badly. Maybe she wouldn’t have lost her leg.
Nana was only five years old, and she had already lost a limb. How would she live from now on? This was an unbearable blow for a child.
The bodyguard entered the room and spoke softly. “Mrs. Carter, Mr. Carter has asked for you.”
Rosalie turned around and shot him a cold glare. “He’s not dead yet?”
The bodyguard smiled awkwardly. “Mrs. Carter, please go. Mr. Carter is waiting for you. There will be someone here to take care of Nana. She will be fine.”
“She won’t be fine.” Rosalie’s voice trembled with anger. “She’s been severely injured and lost a leg. If it happened to you, would you say you were fine?”
