Rosalie was speechless to see that she suddenly had a five-year-old daughter that popped out of nowhere.
This was completely Sebastian’s decision and Rosalie naturally had no affection whatsoever for the child.
The girl was indeed adorable, and although she was an innocent party, Rosalie couldn’t bring herself to treat the child like her mother.
“Where are the biological parents of this child?”
Given how cruel Sebastian was, she worried that this child’s parents’ lives were in danger.
“Rose, she’s an orphan. I carefully selected her from a bunch of children and we’re her parents from now on.”
Sebastian stood up and carried Nana in his arms. “See, it’s great with the three of us as a family. Once you get used to her, we might adopt another child. We can adopt many.”
Nana looked just like a fragile porcelain doll, the look on her face as pitiful as ever. She found everything around her foreign and she behaved with utmost caution for fear that she might upset the adults around her.
She was so well-behaved, it broke Rosalie’s heart. A pity that this was no place for any child to be.
“Rose, why are you so quiet?”
“I’m feeling a little tired. I’m heading in.”
Rosalie was nothing but a puppet right now, behaving as though she were the living dead. She walked into her room.
Sebastian didn’t stop her and said to the girl in his arms instead, “Nana, she’s your mommy from now on. You must listen to her and make her happy, okay?”
Nana nodded obediently.
“My daughter is so good. Nana, call me Daddy.”
Nana said obediently, “Daddy.”
“Oh, my good daughter.” Sebastian rubbed her head affectionately and kissed her cheek. “My darling daughter, Mommy and I will take care of you. This is your home from now on.”
Sebastian treated her as though she were his biological daughter. Love filled his eyes. Anyone seeing him right now would find him a loving, doting father and a kind man.
After a few days, Nana was beginning to get used to her new life, but she realized that her mommy wasn’t happy.
She had never seen her mommy smile. Sometimes, her daddy would let her go close to her mommy, but she didn’t dare to do so. She had a sense that her mommy didn’t like her.
Sometimes, at night, when Nana
couldn’t fall asleep, she would leave her room and walk around the
corridor. When she walked past her
daddy and mommy’s room, she would hear noises inside.
Sometimes, it was her mommy screaming, sometimes, she would be crying, coupled with heavy panting from her daddy. There would be some strange
conversation going on, too.
Whatever it was, she found the noises very strange. She felt scared hearing them, so she would run away with her hands over her ears.
The next morning, Nana would see red marks on her mommy’s neck, resembling strawberries. However, she had no idea what they were.
When she stared at them with curiosity in her eyes, her daddy would put her in his lap and tell her, “That’s a mark of love that Daddy left on Mommy. You’ll know when you grow up, Nana. Mommy loves it.”
Nana snuck a look at her mommy and saw that her face was expressionless. Her mommy didn’t look like she loved them, but Nana was too young to understand these things. Perhaps she might know more when she grows up, she thought.
One day, when her daddy wasn’t at home, Nana was running around at home,
playing with the pinwheel that her daddy gave her.
Her mommy was seated on the couch reading a book very quietly.
Nana ran to Rosalie and sat on the couch, staring at her.
Rosalie turned around and looked at Nana. “What’s the matter?”
“Mommy, are you sad?”
