I gritted my teeth. She was doing it again. After she failed to manipulate Colin, she implied that I came uninvited and I was too poor to have ever tasted lobsters. I had run out of words to describe her evilness. She was the one who tried to steal my boyfriend from me first. How dare she keep challenging my bottom line! Because she was richer than me? Or because she was proud to be a home- wrecker?
I wondered what kind of upbringing she had to carry with her twisted moral values. Perhaps all bastard children were like this.
I pretended not to hear her intended messages and smirked. “Oh, no need to apologize, Jasmine. Colin and I are like a single entity. Wherever he goes, I’ll be there. There’s no need to invite me.”
Jasmine sulked and fell silent. Finally, Colin’s friends noticed the awkwardness in the general ambiance. Not wanting to meddle in our private affairs, they found an excuse to weasel out of the situation. How smart of them to stay away from the center of conflict. That would keep them safe.
