After giving my statement at the police station, I was ready to leave when I bumped into Craig. It seemed the police had already notified him.
The moment he saw me, he let out a mocking laugh. “Is this entertaining to you? You’ve really gone all out, even hiring the police to put on a show and fool me.”
I lowered my gaze and refused to meet his eyes. “Do you honestly think I have the power to bribe the police to play along with me? The bodies of Shane’s parents have already been sent to the funeral home. Tell Shane to head there immediately.”
Craig noticed the grave expressions on the nearby officers‘ faces, which made him frown. ” You–Stop joking. This isn’t funny at all.
“Nat, tell me this is just an act! Tell me you’re lying to fool me! Say it’s a joke, and I swear I won’t hold it against you!”
With a heavy sigh, I calmly watched Craig unravel in front of me.
I had intended to offer a few comforting words, but he suddenly erupted in anger, his voice venomous. “This is all your fault! Why didn’t you just admit you weren’t acting? You’re the reason they’re dead–you murderer!”
His madness turned my sympathy into cold indifference. My tone took on a sharp edge. “I already told you the truth. Shane was the one who claimed I was acting. You chose to believe him, and now, you’re paying the price.”
Craig collapsed to the floor, looking drained. Clutching my sleeve, he broke into uncontrollable sobs. “I can’t bring myself to tell Shane about what happened to his parents. Please, I’m begging you. Inform him for me, would you?”
I had intended to refuse, but a sudden thought crossed my mind. After a moment, I nodded.
Leaving the station, I immediately called my lawyer. “Mr. Zane, I need a divorce agreement drafted right away. Please get ready to handle the divorce proceedings.”
After hanging up, I made my way to Shane’s house, picking up along the way.

When I arrived, Shane and Hailey had just returned home. Shane looked utterly exhausted, as though he hadn’t slept all night.
