Of the three people she’d hired, one of them had long coveted the McClure family fortune. He truly intended to get his hands on the money.
However, Hailey was stingy and refused to pay him, chewing them out instead. Infuriated,
the kidnappers killed Donald and Jane, took the money, and ran.
They were caught while on the run.
I nodded expressionlessly, looking at the deranged man in front of me. It was hard to believe that he had been a wealthy, glamorous scion just a few days ago. “So why are you telling me this? Are you hoping that I’ll take pity on you?”
I laughed coldly. “You brought this on to yourself. You deserve to die.”
I turned to leave. Behind me, Shane screamed, “Don’t leave me alone! Nat, please! I beg you! Don’t divorce me. I don’t want to be alone!”
I glanced back. The police were already dragging him away. Looking at his retreating back, I said, “Don’t call me that. It’s disgusting.”
I handed over the operations of my company to my assistant and secretary, then set off on a vacation to travel the world.
After watching the rain fall from the tallest peak in the world and traveling the vast plains of the northern grasslands, I realized just how foolish I had been.
The world was a beautiful place worth exploring, yet I had foolishly pinned all my happiness on one man.
I exhaled a breath of relief and deleted every trace of Shane from my phone.
A few months later, my lawyer contacted me and told me that Shane had been sentenced to death.
“In that case, we won’t need to go to court for the divorce,” I said happily, looking at the scenery outside.
My lawyer hesitated. “Before death row inmates are executed, they’re allowed to see one person. He asked for you.”
I laughed. “I’m not going. He’s got nothing to do with me now.‘
Six months later, I received news of Shane’s death. In his will, he requested to be buried alongside his parents.
I was named the executor of his will.
I tore up the document and burned it.
That asshole didn’t deserve to be buried with Jane and Donald.
Behind me, my secretary asked, “Ma’am, are you planning to travel again?”
I turned to her with a bright smile. “Yes. I’ll have to trouble you to take over again.
Men, marriage, love–none of it mattered.
