“Garrett, I think I just twisted my ankle–it hurts so much…“%
Without a word, Garrett swept Tania into his arms and rushed her upstairs to the bedroom, not even sparing me a glance.-&
My mother–in–law shot me a long, pointed look, her voice dripping with sarcasm 1
“Not only can you not give us a grandchild, but you can’t even hold onto your own husband. If Sampson hadn’t married Tania first, do you really think my son would’ve settled for you? You’ve got a lot of nerve sitting here and eating. Get upstairs. I lose my appetite just looking at you.“%
It had always been clear she didn’t like me.

Silent, I climbed the stairs. As I reached the landing, I noticed Tania’s bedroom door was ajar./
Almost against my will, I walked over.
Inside, Tania was sprawled across the bed, her clothes in disarray, with Garrett on top of her.%
“Garrett, you’re the only one who’s ever truly cared about me. Sampson can’t have children, and if Renee Diaz gives him a son, he’ll lose his inheritance. Who knows what kind of life I’ll have then, Tania murmured, her voice low and sultry.
Garrett’s breath was ragged, a flush creeping up his cheeks.
“Is Sampson good to you? Has he ever hurt you?“%
“No, ever since I got pregnant, he treats me like I’m made of glass. He’s terrified I’ll get tired, even washes my feet for me, and in bed, he’s more gentle than ever.“2 A shadow crossed Garrett’s face; his voice sounded almost bitter.
“As long as he treats you well, as long as you’re happy, I have no regrets.”
“Garrett, you’ve done so much for me. Since I can’t marry you, the least I can do is give myself to you–just for tonight, I’m yours.“%
Whatever restraint Garrett had left shattered; their bodies tangled together in a frenzy I’d never believed possible from someone as cold and controlled as him. fd never realized Garrett could lose himself like this.
Tears stung my eyes as I stumbled back to my room in humiliation.Я
Garrett didn’t come back all night.2
The next morning, he looked at me with an apologetic smile.
“Renee, I meant to come back last night, but Mom kept me up talking for hours. I just couldn’t get away.“?
I didn’t bother to call out his lie! I just turned and waited for him at the door.
Suddenly, a bucket of cold, foul dishwater splashed over my head. Tanía stood in front of me, still gripping the empty pail, her eyes glinting with malicious delight.? “Did you enjoy the show last night, Renee Diaz? Garrett goes wild for me, doesn’t he?” she taunted, grinning.
So she’d left the door open on purpose.%
“Miscamage isn’t fun, is it? But you won’t have to worry about that anymore–not when you can never have children again.“%
She leaned in, her smirk cruel.
“Did you really think you could compete with me for the title of Mrs. Morgan, just by getting pregnant again and again? Keep dreaming. Garrett gave up his claim to the Morgan Group for me–and he’s even helping me have a child. Even the babies you lost ended up being… nourishment for me.“>
My head snapped up, my voice trembling.%
“What did you just say?“%
She laughed coldly
“Did you ever wonder why Garrett refused to let you see your babies after every miscarriage? He always told you they’d been buried, right? Well, I told him eating that would be good for my bealth.“%
Despair, rage, and disbelief crashed over me all at once
So that was why Garrett had kept me from seeing my babies?%
For Tania, how could he possibly go that far??
