Chapter 184
BOOK 2: CHAPTER 54
Rowan’s POV
“Rowan, you need to sleep,”
Mika’s voice was probably the most irritating thing I’d heard all day and the last thing I wanted to hear.
“Back off. Mika,” I warned.
She let out a begrudging sigh and stopped walking towards me. She knew better than to act insensitive and not do as she was
told.
Five days ago, one of my warriors was brought back dead into my pack. It wasn’t what I bargained for. I never expected 1 would lose one of these people who came into my pack for refuge not to talk of knowing fully well that the murderer was someone from my past.
If he had an issue with me, he should face me and stop acting like a fucking coward.
After I read the note, I went into a state that I called Dangerous. Thorne wanted to take over and I had to fight him for control. This wasn’t his fight anymore, it was mine now. I knew in the past I was a coward as I didn’t protect myself. Not anymore. Too much was at stake for me to just sit back and not do anything.
Moreover, I wasn’t ten years old anymore.
“What happened to you, Rowan?” Mika asked.
I shook my head. I wasn’t about to get into the story by the moonlight. I had to keep guard by the border so I could find the person who murdered one of my men.
“Go back to the packhouse, I dismissed her without bothering to look back at her.
“At least, tell me, do you know the person you’re looking for?”
“Yes!” I snapped.
“What was in that note?”
“A call for action,”
“What type of action!”
I growled. Did she really think I was about to get into the question–and–answer section with her?
I kept staring intensely into the forest, waiting for movement as I’d done for the past five days.
“I don’t think the killer would be lying in wait for you,”
I scoffed. They always go back to their crime scene to see how things are going for their victims,”
This murderer in particular must be waiting for me.
“You’ve been here for five days, Rowan. I know it’s sad that he died like that but things can get out of hand sometimes and I promise, it’s okay,”
“Mika.” I growled, warning her.

Chapter 181
“Rowan,
“No. You should come back when you really want to,” 1 finally said
“Fine!” She snapped.
“Why did you call?”
She had an unbelievable look on her face. I had to quickly look away from the screen because I was scared if I looked too much, I would realize how much I missed her.
“Has Thome been troubling you?”
“No, we’re good”
“We haven’t talked in the past five days and I was wondering if Thorne was being a menace as usual,” she said and giggled.
“Trust me, if Thome was in control, he would be in Alpha Darius pack already,”
“To keep me on my feet,”
She was right! That was Thorne’s thing with her.
“Is there anything you want to talk about!”
I shook my head. “I don’t..”
My words ceased when I saw a man clad in black standing close to one of the canopy trees. He was staring right at me, as though waiting for me to notice him.
I should call for backup, shouldn’t l
“Harriette, let’s talk later, I asked.
“Is everything okay?” I didn’t bother to give her an answer. “Rowan,” she called but I didn’t look back
Slowly, I walked towards him. He stood there, staring at me as though he was waiting.
“Show yourself, I commanded.
He didn’t.
Instead, he turned on his heels and ran. I ran after him without thinking twice. The more he ran, the more I did too. Thankfully, he wasn’t running in the pack’s direction.
Something about the scent he left behind was nerve–wracking. I’d either read about it or perceived it somewhere before but 1 couldn’t remember where or how.
When he got to the main road a few meters away from the pack’s border, He stopped and jumped into a waiting car.
He waved at me with a sinister smile on his face. There was no way I could go after him because I was alone and a part knew it would be stupid to do that.
of me
As he gave me a thumbs up as soon as I felt something behind me. It was a human and aside from that, it had no scent. That was strange.
Before I could turn to see who it was, I felt a heavy hit on my head and the next thing I heard was a crack.

Chapter 184
My vision became blurry but I managed to look back at the figure. It was that of a woman.

The last thing I saw before I hit the dust and lost consciousness was the dark mark that marred one side of her face.
