Chapter 158
BOOK 2 CHAPTER 28
Rowan’s POV
“Something is wrong with Harriette,” That was all I needed before I rushed out of the house and headed for where Harriette was. I grabbed my car key before leaving.
What could be wrong? What could’ve gone wrong? Those were the questions that ran through my head as I rushed into my car and started the engine.
“What’s wrong?” Mika asked as she jumped into my car uninvited
“I don’t know,” I replied honestly.
Before I left my apartment, I made sure to check on Harriette. She was doing just fine. She was unconscious but she was breathing fine. I was able to remove the poison and the bad blood. Nothing else should’ve gone wrong.
Within the blink of an eye, although it felt like ten years, I arrived at my apartment. I threw the door open and rushed into my room. Gideon and Ella were both in the room.
Ella was in tears while Gideon had entered a full panic mood.
Harriette was on the bed writhing and murmuring some incoherent words. Her body jerked uncontrollably in pain. She was -sweating so badly. I could see the blood beneath her feet, When I checked her wound, I realized she was still bleeding
through the bandage.
“Have you called the doctor?” I asked.
Gideon shook his head. “Not yet, I wanted to get your permission first,”
I bit down on my tongue as I glared at him.
“Call the damn doctor. I commanded.
He bowed slightly and walked out of the room, almost hitting Mika squarely on the shoulder.
“How did this start?” I asked Ella.
She was still in tears. Ones that I was sure were crocodile tears. You don’t snitch on your sister one minute and then cry because she was hurt.
“We came here to find her sleeping. All of a sudden, she just screamed and that was when it all started,”
“You didn’t do anything to her and she just started screaming.” Mika asked suspiciously.
“Yes,” The girl cried.
Mika nodded while staring at me trying to read my expression.
1 sat close to the window in an attempt to stop myself from acting stupid. Everything inside of me wanted me to hug Harriette, hold her, and help her through whatever she was going through, but I couldn’t do that when everyone was present.
It was impossible for me to do that.
Minutes later, Gideon arrived with the doctor. The doctor checked up on Harriette.
Chapter 158
“She has a wound. She stepped on poisoned silver, I managed to extract the poison but I don’t know if it might have affected her,”
The doctor nodded and continued her work..
“Whatever is wrong with her isn’t medical,” he began talking. I raised an eyebrow while staring at her as though she suddenly grew two heads,
“What do you mean by that?” I interrupted her.
“Has she gotten her wolf?” He asked.
I turned to Harriette’s sister. She was a bit reluctant before she suddenly shook her head.
“She can onlarl
when it’s necessary, she answered.
What the fuck does that even mean? What the fuck was necessari
“I believe her body is currently mid–shifting. She and her wolf are kind of fighting for dominance. Had it been tonight was a full moon, it would be easier for her wolf to shift but since it’s not, there’s absolutely nothing that can be done to help her. I believe by morning, she should be fine,”
The doctor explained further. She said a lot of things that made sense but somehow, she lost me along the way.
“And if she doesn’t get better by morning?” Ella asked.
Bring her to the hospital. The worst that can happen to her is memory loss or brain damage.”
“In simpler terms, she’s fighting her body from shifting, right?”
I asked.
The doctor nodded. “Yes, Alpha. Her wolf might’ve wanted to help with the pain, and doesn’t know how to since they shift when it’s necessary.” She pointed to Ella regarding what she’d said earlier.
“It would’ve helped if her mate was nearby. Close proximity might help her through her self–inflicted problem,” The doctor made a joke but it wasn’t funny. I frowned at her and she quickly apologized
“That was stupid,”
“Good thing you know,” Mika growled.
The doctor gathered her little equipment, ready to leave. I mind–link Gideon to export her back to the clinic.
“Make sure she understands the repercussions of discussing what she saw or heard tonight with someone else,” I added through the mind–link.
Gideon nodded and they left together.
“Ella,” Mika suddenly called. Ella looked up. She was holding Harriette’s hand tightly
“Yes, Commander Mika,”
“While we wait for Harritee to get better, why don’t you and I take some fresh air and talk more?” Mika was suspicious to me and I wondered what she was trying to do.
Ella shook her head. “I don’t want to leave her, she cried.
SUERested. Her act
I scoffed. The love she had was so genuine she didn’t mind snitching on her sister. I would like to know what was going on
through Ella’s mind.
“Come on, you need it,” Mika pressed,
“No, I think…”
Mika hissed before she switched from a nice person to the Commander Mika that I knew.
“Get off your sorry ass and get out of here with me. Don’t make me ask again,” she threatened.
Ella was surprised at the change of tone and she couldn’t hide is “Okay,
As they left. Mika connected with me through the mind–link.
“Take your time, Rowan. I don’t care if she’s your mate or not. Just do your thing,
I smirked.
I should’ve known that was why she pestered Ella to leave the room. I locked the door as soon as I heard the front door
open.
I walked to Harriette and sat beside her. I took the wet cloth and cleaned up some of her sweat and tears that had mixed together.
As soon as my hand touched her skin, Harriette grabbed my hand and she calmed down a bit.
My name is Harriette. My name is Harriette,” she repeated.
I frowned. It sounded as though she was trying to convince herself that her name was Harriette.
Im sorry, Mother. My name is Harriette,”
She cried again.
I held her tightly and she whispered, her heavy sobbing reducing
“Harriette, what went wrong? What happened to you?”
I asked as I pushed strands of her hair away from her face.
She suddenly grabbed my hand tighter than before.
“I don’t know who I am. Who am I? Mother, she suddenly asked, her eyes tightly shut.
“You’re whoever you’re meant to be. You don’t have to be Harriette or whoever this Mother wanted you to be. Don’t forget your true self. That’s more important. You’re strong, courageous, and super smart. You can fight this, I promise you that.”
The next morning came.
I only had two hours of sleep all through the night. I opened my eyes to realize that Harriette was not on the bed anymore. panicked but calmed down almost immediately when I saw her standing close to the window.
“What are you doing there?” I asked her.
She stared at me as if searching for something. Thorne,” she called.
1 frowned Where was that coming from?
“No. Rowan,” I answered.
Chapter 158
She smiled so brightly the morning sun must’ve been jealous of her radiant smile. “Good! You’re finally back, she answered.
Harriette looked more bubbly than usual. Something was definitely wrong. I walked closer to her and touched her forehead.
“As the car crashed into the mountain yesterday, I thought I was going to die but thanks to my super genes, I’m still alive,”
I blinked.
She answered joyfully.
“That was four days ago, Harriette,”
I answered.
Her happy smile slipped off her face. “No, that was yesterday afternoon, right?”
“Right?” She asked again.
