Chapter 389
Watching from the side, Matthew saw Stephanie being accused like that and immediately stepped in to defend her. “Hey, hey, hey… Stephanie meant well. Do you have to be so aggressive? Besides, weren’t you all students from Crestwood High before?”
William scoffed coldly and retorted directly, ‘Crestwood High has so many people. Do you expect me to know every single one?”
“You…”
William looked serious, making Matthew momentarily unsure whether he was lying or not.
While there was some old connection between the older generations of the Burnetts and the Tates, it was just that -old. The recent interactions between George and the Burnetts had clearly become rare, especially since William rarely attended any gatherings. His words seemed to have a point.
William was still infuriated by Charlie a moment ago, but after venting his anger, he felt a lot better. “Anything else? If not, I have to go find my king crab. Don’t stand in my way.”‘
Then he turned to leave.
As he passed by Matthew, Matthew instinctively tried to reach out and stop him. However, feeling extremely unwell all over, he lost consciousness as soon as his hand stretched out, and he ended up falling right onto William.
The crowd exclaimed.
“Ah! What’s going on?!”
“Matthew, are you okay? Don’t scare me!”
“Arghhh!”
William also yelled in shock, “D*mn, there are cameras here. Don’t try to set me up!”
The five of them caused such a commotion that Milly, arriving from 800 metres away, heard it all. She initially saw Stephanie and her group but decided not to get involved. But seeing William surrounded by them made her worry he might get into trouble.
After pondering for a moment, she decided to rush over and see what was happening.
“What’s going on? Is everything alright? William, are you okay?”
William, who had been frantic just moments ago, now heard the familiar voice and became visibly moved, tears welling up as if he had found a saviour. “Sobs, Boss, you’re here at last. They’re trying to frame me! They want to extort me! They’re so wicked! They’re insane! Help me!”
You could see he was genuinely afraid, his voice choking with emotion.
Hearing that, Milly couldn’t help but feel anxious herself.
She hurriedly pushed through the crowd, squeezed in, and saw William standing stiffly in place, with Matthew, who was a head taller, firmly pressing down on him.
Matthew was dressed lightly, his face was pale, his lips cracked, and he was sweating profusely, looking extremely uncomfortable.
“Hey, are you alright? Get up first!”
Milly also noticed something was wrong with him. She quickly tried to pull him up, but couldn’t budge him. He seemed to have lost consciousness, and his whole body felt hot to the touch.
“He has a fever,” Milly said with certainty, then looked at Stephanie. “Do you have any fever medicine?”
Stephanie shook her head. “No, we don’t have any.”
Matthew’s fever was getting serious, and delaying medication could lead to further complications.
Milly thought for a moment. They didn’t seem to have any fever medicine on hand either, but she couldn’t ignore the situation.
Finally, she tightened her lips and said to William, who looked displeased, “Let’s go. We should bring him back and find a way to lower his fever.”
William’s expression darkened even more at her words. “Why should we? He was disrespectful to you earlier. Keeping someone like him around is just wasting our time and breath. He doesn’t appreciate kindness! He can deal with it himself! Hmph!’
Milly sighed and reassured him, “Okay, once he wakes up, I’ll kick him out right away. He won’t stay a second longer, okay? William is handsome and generous. There’s no need to stoop to their level. You’re not petty!”
Like dealing with a child, you have to go along with him.
William’s maturity level wasn’t much higher than a child’s. As expected, just after her praise, he immediately showed off, lifting his head high with an air of arrogance.
“Hmph! No need to say it. I’m the epitome of strength and beauty, wit and bravery!”
Immediately after, he seemed revitalised, as if infused with energy, almost wanting to carry Matthew for a hundred-metre sprint to showcase his masculinity.
However, things didn’t go as planned. He couldn’t lift Matthew, so he had to walk back with Milly supporting him, followed by Hannah, Stephanie, and Dakota.
And so a whole team marched proudly behind Milly.
After a brief walk, they arrived at their destination. Upon seeing the scene in front of them, the three behind Milly couldn’t hide their surprise.
In front of them stood a remarkably solid and spacious bamboo house, surrounded by a modest kitchen area with cooking utensils on a stove. Nearby, there were tables, chairs, and benches, all tidy and exuding a homely vibe, resembling a secluded home from ancient times.
“D-Did you guys really build all this?” asked Dakota, looking at everything before her in disbelief.
Milly, helping William support Matthew, responded indifferently with a simple “Hmm.”
“No way! Absolutely impossible!” exclaimed Stephanie sharply from the side, seemingly unaware of her inappropriate tone.
“How could they have built this house overnight? They must have found the production team’s base camp before us!”
Milly is just a fool. She must have just gotten lucky!
If she was just lucky, then the things she said in front of the camera could be excused. But if those things were actually done by Milly and her team, then wouldn’t she be shooting herself in the foot? The four of them in the woods would be a joke, being watched by the entire nation on a live broadcast!
No way, absolutely not!
She forced herself to suppress her jealousy and urgently asked, “Milly, did you guys find this house by chance? You know, it’s really something that you found such a nice place and didn’t call us over. Matthew got so cold in the woods that he got a fever.”
Hah…
I’ve seen shameless people before, but never this bad.
William couldn’t contain his temper. Hearing her
sarcastic comment made his hair stand on end, and he was about to speak when Milly stopped him, signalling that it wasn’t necessary to say anything.
She might be playing dumb, but the live audience definitely wasn’t fooled.
