Chapter 364
Their stares were locked in a tough battle for superiority, as each seemed determined to completely overpower the other. Neither showed any sign of backing down, filling the air with a heavy tension that seemed to make it thick.
Danny watched the fierce showdown on the sidelines, his nerves on edge.
Should their groups actually go to war with the two branches of the Ghost Sect, it wouldn’t look good for the Tate family’s reputation in Halturia. But they were up against Halturia’s special forces! Fighting them wasn’t just a bad idea-it could get them labelled as terrorists, a stain not even old man Tate could protect them from.
At that point, even the Tates’ patriarch couldn’t protect them!
“Mr. Tate, try to stay cool!
“Mr. Scathings, please be patient!”
Just as the standoff appeared unbreakable and the pressure seemed its highest, the distant roar of an engine split the quiet, followed by a dust cloud.
Then, six or seven cars pulled up abruptly, with about ten bodyguards stepping out from each, all dressed in sleek black.
What was this about?
The lead car’s door opened, and Jordan, looking dapper in his suit, stepped out. A closer look showed the suit was wrinkled, unchanged from yesterday, and there were dark circles under his eyes – clear signs of a sleepless night.
After the meeting had ended, he got home past midnight, planning to head straight to bed. But he assumed Milly was up when he saw her room door ajar with light peeking out.
Thinking she was still up, he knocked on her door, suggesting she get some early rest. But he started to worry when she didn’t answer after a few tries. He went inside and found her phone was still recording.
He could see what was on the screen, even in the dim light.
When he realised Milly had been kidnapped, he immediately called on all his contacts for information about the kidnapper. Even though the video didn’t show the kidnapper’s face clearly, they were able to zero in on the location by the kidnapper’s build.
Luckily, the Burnetts could still rely on their old military connections. After a non-stop search through the night, they located the spot. To everyone’s surprise, George had already freed Milly.
“Milly!”
Jordan ran to them, relieved to see Milly safe despite being drunk. A massive wave of relief hit him.
Thank goodness.
He tried to help Milly, but George wouldn’t let her go. He gave George a stern look, telling him, “Mr. Tate, it’s okay to let her go now.”
But George didn’t say a word, his feelings hidden as he continued to hold her tight.
The air filled with tension again.
Danny, seeing Jordan, felt a moment of relief. He looked up to him as a hero, hoping he could ease the tension between the Scathings and Tates, which now seemed to include the Burnetts.
Given the rivalry, it made sense for the Scathings to be assertive. But how could they be strict with the Burnetts? After all, Jordan was her brother.
Deep down, Danny begged, Mr. Tate, please stay calm. He’s about to become your brother- in-law!
In a pivotal moment, the main focus of attention, barely conscious, looked around confusedly until her eyes met with Jordan’s. She then quickly let out her frustration.
“Jordan, you made it. They’ve been mean to me, wah…
Jordan felt his heart soften at her words. Ignoring if George would retaliate, he reached over, pulled her close, and soothingly said, “No need to cry, Milly. It’s my fault for not being there for you. Let’s head back, shall we? We’re heading home now.”
He then began to walk away.
“Hold on!” Milly abruptly stopped him.
Still, somewhat out of it, she leaned on Jordan’s shoulder, peering back at George with a surprised look. She quirkily remarked, “Hey there, handsome, just wait for me. I’ll be back to marry you!”
Even in such a moment, she hadn’t lost her flirtatious spirit.
George responded in a low tone, “Okay.”
Milly, relieved by his response yet appearing concerned as she looked at his attractive face, pouted and started to dig through her pockets, saying, “No, I need to leave
something for the handsome guy as a sign of my love.”
But after searching for a bit, she couldn’t find anything, not even a tissue.
She kept searching with determination and finally found something solid. She excitedly pulled it out and handed it to George, proclaiming, “Here, handsome, take this as a token of my love and wait for me!”
Everyone stared at the item in her hand, falling silent in thought.
All of them are entirely speechless.
Luckily, George didn’t say no. He coolly accepted the item from her, slipping it into his pocket with a simple “Okay.” It seemed as if she had handed him a treasure.
Milly’s smile of relief finally broke through after an evening filled with stress. She found comfort in the familiar scent of Jordan and quickly drifted off to sleep in his embrace.
Jordan had already lost interest in George. If Milly hadn’t insisted just now, he would have covered her eyes to stop her from seeing.
He couldn’t linger any longer, so he hopped into the car and sped off.
He needed to hurry back, ensure Milly was okay, and see if she had gotten hurt. Everything else could wait and be talked about another time.
When he departed, George hopped into his car, too, and his group gradually did the same.
Suddenly, the once-teeming entrance with activity became empty, leaving only Lucius and his squad behind.
Lucius appeared overlooked, quietly standing to the side, his gaze cast downwards, concealing his feelings.
A special forces operative came up and quietly asked, “Commander, is it time for us to pull back?”
Lucius slowly lifted his head, his gaze heavy with hostility and an eerie sense of threat, as he watched the way Milly had gone. A peculiar smirk crept onto the edge of his lips, enough to send chills through anyone witnessing it. There was a touch of insanity in his voice as he spoke.
“Milly, I gave you a chance, but you didn’t even spare me a glance. Don’t hold it against me now!
“You’ve pushed me to this point! From here on out, your eyes, heart, thoughts, and movements are mine and mine alone.
“I’m going to keep you hidden away where no eyes but mine can see you!”
