“I don’t care who you
serve or why you’re here. You will die the moment you set foot on Saint Grace Nunnery”
Holding his sword, Nolan looked down at the shadow guards held down on the ground.
Those guards had been frisked, and the poison pills hidden behind their teeth were found.
Now, they were at the mercy of Nolan. Nolan coldly gazed at those guards. After a while, the last shadow guard was caught.
With a new wound, Tina slowly dragged a bloody man over and pushed him toward the captives.
All the shadow guards of the Stonor family knew that bloody man because he was Gabriel’s right–hand man, Tim Brown.
Unfortunately, Tim was now ruined. “Great. You’re all here,” Nolan said.
Nolan gripped the sword in his hand, got up, and walked up to Tim. “No blood or kill in the nunnery,” he said. “Take them to the Duke’s estate.”
“Yes!” Nolan’s guards responded. That night, blood reddened the street in front of the Duke’s estate, and rows of corpses blocked the street.
With Tim included, all of Gabriel’s reliable shadow guards died before the Duke’s estate.
The next day, Magnus was curious about the fight in Saint Grace Nunnery last night.
At the court, he got the news that Gabriel had asked for leave because of an attack of illness this morning.
“A sudden illness?” Magnus asked with surprise. “Why? Isn’t Gabriel in good health?”
He wondered, “Did Uncle Nolan do something bad to Gabriel? Did he poison Gabriel?” He was wrong because Gabriel’s sickness had resulted from rage.
His courtiers exchanged nervous glances, and none dared to tell the truth.
Magnus shifted his gaze to Dale. “Dale, isn’t your wife Gabriel’s little sister? Have you heard anything?”
Only then did Dale say, “Yes, I did hear something. This morning, dozens of corpses lined up before the Duke’s estate, so Gabriel must have been scared.”
That was all Dale could say. He didn’t share with Magnus that all those corpses were Gabriel’s shadow guards.
Gabriel had a good reason to fall sick since so many of his shadow guards had died overnight.
Most importantly, his right–handed man had died too. Now, he was out on a limb.
Hearing this, Magnus almost burst into laughter. It for him to figure out the whole story.

He failed to find his nephews after his eyes swept around Gabriel’s room. Why didn’t the Stonor brothers keep their sick father company at such a critical moment?

Gabriel lifted his eyelids. “They are looking for Sophie who is missing.”
“Missing?” Dale asked with shock. “Who was so bold to kidnap your girl?” Gabriel didn’t answer this question, but his expression turned cold.
Instantly, Dale had the answer in his mind. Frowning, he asked, “Is Eliza involved?”
“She is the kidnapper,” Magnus said firmly. He was sure that Eliza had detained Sophie.
“There must be a misunderstanding. Eliza is a good girl, so I don’t think that she is the kidnapper,” Dale said.
“No misunderstanding. She is the kidnapper,” Gabriel said with a long face. He couldn’t tell Dale the real reason for this mess so he repeated his answer.
Dale shook his head and said, “Well, it has nothing to do with me. As ordered by His Majesty, I came to send his regards to you.”
“I appreciate that,” Gabriel said blandly. “I have a lot on my plate. Sorry that I can’t invite you to dine here.”
Instantly, Dale got the meaning between the lines. He shrugged as his response to Gabriel. He had wrapped up his task anyway.
As for the trouble of the Duke’s estate, it had nothing to do with the Marquis’s estate.
With this thought, Dale went home. There came a howl upon his arrival at home. “Sophie! Let me go find Sophie!”
In the Marquis’s estate, Caleb was making a scene.
Adeline scolded angrily, “What nonsense are you talking about? You are grounded by your father. I can’t keep you alive if you cause trouble again.”
She then shouted with disappointment and indignation, “Why do you make a fuss over Sophie?”
“Mom! Sophie is my future wife! Now that she is missing, shouldn’t I be worried?” Caleb argued.
“Screw her!” Adeline’s reason lost to fury. “You and she haven’t gotten married yet. There is no engagement between you two. Even if you want her to be your wife, will your uncle agree?”
“Tell me what to do then, Mom. Sophie has been missing for a long time. If something bad happens to her, can she marry into our family as planned?” Caleb asked.
“There are other options.” Speaking, Adeline shot a fierce glare at her son. “There are many ladies in this city, so she isn’t the only choice for us.”
There had been a time when Adeline liked Sophie very much. Back then, she had seen Sophie as a well–educated, kind, and innocent girl.
Most importantly, Gabriel was partial to Sophie. Adeline had thought that her elder brother would help her dear son after Sophie married into the Nevill family.
That had been her plan. Things changed after she found that Caleb had stolen three bottles of snow cream as his gifts for Sophie.
Upon the discovery of the theft, Adeline took inventory of her warehouse through the night. In the end, she found that Caleb had gifted Sophie more than three bottles of snow cream behind her back.
Infuriated, Adeline gave her dear son a good beating. Since then, Sophie had changed from a kind and innocent girl into a bitch who was wanton and led Caleb astray in the eye of Adeline.
“Caleb! Listen carefully. I will disown you if you see Sophie again!” Adeline threatened.
“Mom, I love Sophie. Besides, you told me to ignore Eliza and be good to Sophie. Why did you change all of a sudden?” Caleb sounded confused.

Dale happened to hear Caleb, so he looked at Adeline with a frown. Adeline felt embarrassed.
She didn’t expect her son to get her old trick exposed before her husband.
She then explained to Dale, “No, well… Look, I was misled by the rumors and thought that Eliza wasn’t good enough for our
son, so…”
She thought, “Back then, I didn’t know that Sophie was a sly hypocrite, and I couldn’t foresee that Eliza would become Holy Lady by a stroke of luck.”
After a cold snort, Dale said to his stupid wife. “You know them better than me. You don’t have to explain to me.”
