Chapter 22: Caught on the Spot for Complaining
Kaitlyn quickly found out that Leon played golf every weekend.
At Silverstone Lake.
A low–key yet high–end golf club.
After discussing with Kaitlyn, we decided to stage a chance encounter.
On Saturday afternoon, we arrived at the course early, waiting for the perfect moment.
It wasn’t until quite some time later that we saw Leon, surrounded by a crowd, making his way toward us.
After exchanging a glance with me, Kaitlyn

took her golf club and walked over.
“Mr. Rogers, nice to see you again.” Kaitlyn greeted him with a professional air, polite but assertive.
Leon paused upon hearing the greeting. His gaze briefly lingered on Kaitlyn’s face before moving away.
His eyes remained calm, as though he didn’t quite remember who we were.
The man standing beside him teased, “Mr. Rogers, you truly have good fortune wherever you go, don’t you?”
His gaze at Kaitlyn and me was crude and dismissive, clearly thinking of us as gold–diggers.
I didn’t let it bother me. Stepping forward,

I said, “Mr. Rogers, it’s only natural you wouldn’t remember Ms. Hayes, given how busy you are. It seems that Ms. Hayes‘ wish for today won’t be fulfilled after all.”
With that, I sighed.
Only then did Leon glance up, curiosity flickering in his eyes as he looked toward Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn scratched her head awkwardly, glancing at me for reassurance.
I smiled softly and said, “It’s fine, Ms. Hayes. Maybe next time, we can have another round with Mr. Rogers.”
Kaitlyn’s pupils flickered slightly, but she quickly regained her composure and said in unison with me, “Seems like these two hours were a waste of time.”

Kaitlyn had a commanding presence–her striking features and charming eyes made her stand out in any crowd. Even without speaking, she was eye–catching. Now, with a touch of vulnerability in her expression, she looked almost pitiful.
The onlookers, amused, turned their attention to Leon and remarked, “Miss–no offense–but Mr. Rogers’s skills are top–tier in Myslana. Are you here to challenge him or are you just trying to make a scene?”
Kaitlyn swiftly waved her golf club and retorted, “I don’t think so.”
“Then let’s just have a casual game,” Leon spoke up, breaking his silence. His tone was calm and unhurried. “But I’ll say this upfront -I won’t go easy on you.”

His presence was commanding, and Kaitlyn, after hearing that, held her breath, not knowing what to say next.
I stood protectively beside her, whispering, “Don’t worry, winning or losing doesn’t matter anymore.”‘
The most important thing was that we had just gained a chance to communicate with Leon.
In truth, Kaitlyn wasn’t bad at golf.
She had practiced diligently in the past, all in hopes of impressing her rich ex–husband. As a result, she wasn’t just another amateur golfer, but she still couldn’t match up to someone like Leon, who was clearly in a different league.
As expected, after a long round of golf, the

sun was setting, and Kaitlyn was utterly exhausted. She had lost, but it wasn’t a humiliating defeat.
Leon tossed his golf club to the caddy and glanced at Kaitlyn, saying subtly, “Ms. Hayes, that birdie you made was quite impressive.”
He had made four or five birdies himself.
Kaitlyn, now feeling a bit of competitive fire, frowned and said, “We should have a rematch sometime.”
The crowd around them teased, “Mr. Rogers, Ms. Hayes is asking for a rematch!”
Oh, so now Kaitlyn and I were starting to be identified by name.
Leon smiled faintly, then his gaze shifted to me. “Why didn’t you bring Winston along?”

At the mention of Winston, the amused expressions of the crowd shifted once again.
“Professor Fleming is quite busy. I didn’t want to bother him,” I replied sincerely.
“After all that play, I’m sure you’re both tired. If you don’t mind, why don’t you join us for a drink at the club?” Leon suggested, his tone as relaxed as ever.
Kaitlyn and I exchanged a brief glance
before responding in unison, “It would be our pleasure.”
At the club, we weren’t the only women there.
Leon went off to change, and Kaitlyn and I seized the opportunity to gossip with the others.

Someone casually brought up Fletcher, complaining that it was impossible to get in touch with him.
“I heard he’s been seeing a college student. Lately, he’s been chasing her around like a madman. He’s even stirred up the entire Lynton family–things are a mess, no idea what one person commented.
after,
Another rich heir quickly joined in, “You don’t get it, do you? A college girl–she’s got that innocence. Once they’re in bed, her voice… it’s just irresistible.”
As soon as he finished, everyone around us burst into laughter.
I lowered my head and took a sip of my drink, which had a bitter taste.

“Alright, enough of that,” Leon’s voice interrupted, “There are still ladies here.”
Kaitlyn shot me a glance before joking, “Young body, who wouldn’t like it?”
Her playful comment eased the tension and saved me from awkwardness.
I quickly refocused on the task at hand and walked toward Leon with my drink in hand.
“Mr. Rogers,” I said, lowering my glass. “Thank you for today.”
“Winston’s friends are my friends, Ms. Grande. No need to thank me,” Leon replied smoothly.
I wasn’t about to beat around the bush. “Mr. Rogers, I think you’ve figured it out. Today’s meeting wasn’t exactly by chance.”

Leon remained silent, nodding for me to continue.
“We’d like to discuss a project with you,” I went straight to the point.
Leon took a sip of his drink, then after a long pause, he spoke. “You shouldn’t be short of money if you’re already working with Mr.
Lynton, right?”
He clearly knew Fletcher had invested in us.
I steadied myself and replied, “Money? Mr. Lynton definitely has plenty. But when it comes to vision and strategy, Ms. Hayes and I both believe you have the upper hand.”
Leon squinted slightly, as if he’d heard this kind of compliment countless times before. “I’d like to hear the real reason, Ms. Grande!

His tone was polite, yet there was an underlying pressure that made it feel as though I were walking on a tightrope. It was a feeling that suggested if I had any ulterior motives, he might throw both Kaitlyn and me out of the room without a second thought.
I could only be honest. “We’re doing this project for the money, but Mr. Lynton… is different.”
“Hmm?”
“Mr. Lynton is doing this to please a beauty.“” I paused to choose my words carefully. “Our goals are different.”
Before I even finished speaking, Leon burst into a short laugh. “Seems like Mr. Lynton isn’t doing a good job as an investor if he’s managed to make you think this way.”

It was supposed to be casual conversation, but Leon’s gaze never left the spot behind
me.
I turned, feeling a sense of confusion rising within me, and saw Fletcher standing there. He was looking directly at me.
