Chapter 04: I’m Already Seeing
Someone
Fletcher’s sudden arrival caught everyone by surprise.
At that moment, Sean, who had been working late into the night, emerged from the break room with messy hair and a toothbrush hanging from his mouth.
This was a typical sight for us programmers, but Fletcher raised his eyebrows slightly upon seeing it.
It was understandable.
A small studio like ours can’t compare to a large group like Lynton Group.
I guessed that Fletcher might be regretting

placing Davina here.
Davina, however, seemed unconcerned and pointed to the spot by the window, saying, “Fletcher, this is my desk.”
Fletcher didn’t respond.
I followed his gaze and saw that his eyes were fixed on the desk opposite Davina’s.
That was where I usually coded.
On the desk, besides the desktop computer, there was also an old black laptop.
It was the prize Fletcher had won in a competition during his sophomore year.
It was also one of the few gifts he had given
me.

The configuration was still decent, and I had kept using it up until now.
“Hey, Charlene, your laptop is the same model as Fletcher’s,” Davina noticed and stared at me with her big, doe–like eyes. She asked, “Is it easy to write code on?”
I hadn’t known Fletcher had the same model.
But to avoid any unnecessary trouble, I calmly replied, “It’s old, not as good as the newer models.”
No sooner had I spoken than I heard Davina ask Fletcher, “Fletcher, what do you think?”
An interview, one by one, huh?
Fletcher didn’t answer, instead asking, “Are you thinking about replacing your laptop?”

Davina rubbed her nose. “The one I bought before didn’t have the right specs, the seller tricked me.”
“I knew it.”
The words seemed to be criticizing her for being careless, but from Fletcher’s mouth, they had a hint of fondness.
It was a bit at odds with his usual cold demeanor.
“Fletcher, are you going to say I’m dumb again?” Davina pouted, about to respond, when she suddenly sneezed.
Fletcher quickly stepped forward, his voice laced with concern, “Are you catching a cold?”
Davina sniffled, a hint of fear in her eyes. “Oh

no, it might be pollen allergy…”
Before she could finish, she sneezed twice
more.

I hadn’t even begun to offer comfort when Fletcher interrupted, “Get rid of all these useless plants right away.”
Fletcher was referring to the succulent plants by the window.
Those were Kaitlyn’s treasures.
I hesitated, “Mr. Lynton, these succulents have passed their blooming period…”
“I don’t want to say it a second time,” Fletcher cut me off firmly, “Get another air purifier.”
I was left speechless.

Davina, standing nearby, explained, “Fletcher, Charlene didn’t know I had a pollen allergy, otherwise she wouldn’t have placed me here.”
She was referring to the spot by the window.
The spot I thought had the best lighting and the highest degree of privacy, truly the best spot in the entire office.
I looked at the girl’s innocent expression. After a brief thought, I spoke, “It was my oversight. How about this–there’s an office on the right side, no one’s using it. Ms. Bates could work there.”
Sean, standing nearby, immediately spoke up, “Charlene, isn’t that inappropriate? That’s the office Ms. Hayes left for you.”

His implication was that Davina wasn’t worthy of it.
Davina caught on and shook her head, refusing, “I’m fine, Charlene. I’ll just take some allergy medicine. After all, I’m still the new one. It’s not right for me to take an office.”
Principles are set by people, and with Fletcher as the investor, the principles could be bent.
Sure enough, the next moment, Fletcher. made up his mind, “That’s settled then.”
Davina hesitated, looking at Fletcher, “Fletcher, this isn’t right.”
Fletcher’s deep, unfathomable gaze
suddenly turned toward me, and I heard him ask in a neutral tone, “Ms. Grande, what do

you think?”
The emotions I had hidden so well cracked just for a second, but I quickly masked it with a smile and replied, “We’ll do as you suggested, Mr. Lynton.”
As Fletcher wished, Davina moved into the office.
Kaitlyn, who had rushed over, called me down to the café and vented, “We’re not getting an investment; it’s more like money from debasing ourselves.”
I calmly responded, “It’s just an office. It’s not a big deal.”
Kaitlyn took a sip of her coffee, her brow furrowing in concern. “Aren’t you worried this is just the beginning? How am I supposed to go on business trips and not worry?”

I changed the subject slightly, “Don’t forget, Fletcher is the investor. He wouldn’t let his money go to waste.”
Davina wouldn’t either.
She still needed to use this project for her graduation project.
Besides, Fletcher was the investor, so it was normal for him to stir up trouble.
Back in the office, I called Sean and Davina in for a meeting and calmly assigned tasks.
Sean immediately got to work, but Davina bit her lip, looking like she wanted to say something but hesitated.
I looked at her and asked, “Is something wrong?”

“Charlene, I don’t have experience with front–end development.”
I was a bit surprised. After all, software majors usually have practical experience during school. I picked up a relevant book from the desk and said, “You can read this first, and ask me if you don’t understand anything.”
Davina nodded lightly and turned to go back to her office.
I immersed myself in work.
The hours flew by, and before I knew it, the city lights were coming on. I hurriedly tidied up my desk and set out.
I needed to go to the mall before it closed to buy an air purifier.

The mall was bustling with people. As I stepped off the sightseeing elevator, I suddenly heard my name called.
“Lena.”
I turned around, puzzled, and saw a middle–aged woman standing a couple of meters away, wearing a dark red velvet dress. with a cinched waist.
I recognized her immediately–Daphne Jones.
Fletcher’s mother.
It had been two years, and she had clearly embraced the role of a wealthy lady.
Our eyes met, and she quickly walked up to me. She awkwardly tugged at the corner of

her mouth and asked, “When did you return to Myslana?”
I replied
“The dimly, “It’s been a few days.”
“Then, will you be leaving again?”
She immediately realized how awkward that sounded and explained, “There are several excellent young men around me. If you don’t leave, I can help you find one. You know, I’ve always liked you.”
I understood her intentions.
Such urgency, it was clear she was afraid I’d continue to cling to her son.
It made sense. After all, I had been so infatuated with Fletcher, and I had gone to great lengths to please Daphne.

There was no natural connection between us; it was all because of my sweet words.
Her wariness toward me was entirely understandable.
Though I understood, when I saw the once–kind elder now eyeing me with suspicion, a pang of bitterness rose in my chest.
She probably didn’t know about my collaboration with Fletcher.
She didn’t know that Fletcher already had Davina by his side.
Davina was the one he truly cherished.
“Lena?” Daphne noticed my silence and, with a tentative tone, asked, “You and Letch…”

“Daphne, don’t trouble yourself,” I interrupted her, meeting her gaze and declining, “I’m already seeing someone.”
See? After two years with Kaitlyn, my skills in telling lies had improved.
Daphne visibly relaxed at my words, but the next moment, a hint of panic flashed across her face.
“Letch… why are you here so early?”
I followed Daphne’s gaze and, sure enough, saw Fletcher standing a few steps away.
The man was dressed in a crisp tailcoat, radiating an aura of coldness, like a godly figure straight out of a magazine–refined, with an extraordinary presence.
His gaze was locked onto me.
