During the heated confrontation, the neighbors, furious and indignant, pulled Julia forward and shoved her toward the bodyguards.
“This is Julia! Take her away!” one neighbor yelled.
“Her parents are protecting her on purpose! They’re just trying to frame her sister!” another accused.
“We’ve all seen these two kids grow up. Don’t think you can fool us! Julia has never been a good person!”
someone else added.
The bodyguards wasted no time in restraining Julia. She screamed desperately for her parents‘ help, but their faces were stricken with fear. Overwhelmed by the power and influence of the Kramer family, they stood frozen, helpless as she was dragged toward the car.
Julia fell to her knees, sobbing and pleading with the bodyguards to spare her, but they remained unmoved. It was a pitiful sight, watching her reduced to begging for mercy.
My parents, who had been so quick to defend her, looked equally wretched. They stood trembling, their humility laid bare as they tried in vain to plead for Julia’s release.

It was painfully clear–reason and justice meant nothing to them. Their blind favoritism for Julia had cons d them entirely. I was nothing more than a disposable scapegoat, ready to be sacrificed to protect their golden cd.
When the bodyguards ignored their pleas, my parents grew desperate and furious.
“Let her go!” my father bellowed. “Or… or we’ll call the police!”
“This is a society ruled by law!” my mother shrieked. “Who dares to lay a hand on my daughter?”
The bodyguards halted. Their leader turned back slowly, his cold, steely gaze silencing my parents. With one swift motion, he slapped my father hard across the face. The impact was brutal, leaving my father’s cheek swollen
and red. Yet he didn’t dare utter a sound of protest.
“Call the police?” the bodyguard sneered. “Go ahead. Let’s see who’s brave enough to go against the Kramer

He leaned in closer, his voice laced with menace. “Do you think the crime of scheming against the Kramers will be forgiven so easily? If you cross them, you’ll lose everything. Your daughter’s arrest will be the least of your
worries.”
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle. “Don’t forget–you still need to survive in this city. Offend the Kramers, and no one will protect you. If you don’t want to live, go ahead and ignore my advice. When the time comes, you can all share a grave. That way, your precious daughter won’t be lonely on the road to the afterlife.”
The bodyguard then turned his cold eyes to the neighbors. “And as for you all, if a single word about today slips
out, you know the consequences.”
The neighbors hastily nodded, their faces pale with fear. “We didn’t see anything,” they muttered in unison. Satisfied, the bodyguards left, dragging Julia into the car. The vehicle roared to life, spraying exhaust fumes in my parents‘ faces as it sped off.
They stood there, defeated and dejected, their voices trembling with disbelief.
“How could this happen? How could this happen…” my father mumbled.
“Julia is the Kramers‘ benefactor!” my mother cried. “How could they repay kindness with hatred?”
Their refusal to accept reality was pathetic. I had no patience left for their delusions. Turning on my heel, I prepared to leave.
But just as I stepped away, another car pulled up. This time, the man who emerged was calm and polite.
“Miss Reid?” He asked, addressing me directly. “Mr. Kramer has sent for you.”
Hearing this, my parents‘ eyes turned red with fury. They lunged at me, their faces twisted with rage.
“You wretch! I knew it was you!” my mother screamed. “You framed your sister! You’re just jealous of her!”
“You stole the credit for saving someone, didn’t you?” my father shouted. “You’re nothing but a heartless beast! How could I have raised such an ungrateful child?”
“Speak up! Tell the truth and get your sister back! Or I swear, you’re no daughter of mine!” my mother shrieked,
clawing at me.
Before I could respond, the assistant stepped forward. With a swift, effortless kick, he sent my parents sprawling
to the ground. They landed heavily, too stunned to get up.
“Enough,” he said coldly. Then he turned to me, his demeanor softening. “Miss Alice, please come with me.” I hesitated, unsure why Albert Kramer would summon me. The only explanation I could think of was that he
believed I had been involved in Julia’s plot.
But I had done everything I could to distance myself from her schemes. Just moments ago, I had openly defied my parents to make my stance clear.
And yet, I couldn’t shake the sinking feeling that none of it mattered now.
Why won’t he let me go?
