Everyone praised us as the couple goals, a match made in heaven.
We were each other’s salvation.

After I left the company, Maxime hired a young, beautiful female secretary. Her name was Lily Cartwright.
Even I could not deny that she was stunning, with a face as beautiful as an angel and a figure as seductive as a sexy succubus.
The first time I met Lily was in the lounge of Maxime’s office.
Maxime explained, “This is the new secretary, our professional junior. She insisted on working even though she wasn’t feeling well during her period. She didn’t want to admit that her body couldn’t handle it, so I let her rest here for a while.”
Lily stuck out her tongue, playfully adding, “Mrs. Remington, I’m so sorry. We’re both women, so you must understand!”
I felt uncomfortable at the time and asked Maxime to be careful.
If she really had a health problem, she should take leave and go home, not lie on a married man’s bed while showing such a seductive figure.
Maxime brushed it off, telling me I was too sensitive and urged me not to be so harsh on the young girl. “Pregnant women tend to have irrational thoughts. Sophie, you weren’t like this before.”
I questioned myself, worrying that perhaps I was the one with the problem.
But as time passed, I realized that he and Lily were growing closer and closer.
There were women’s slippers and changes of clothes in the office that did not belong to me. Pink pendants adorned the desk and loose powder was tucked away in the drawer.
After a night when Maxime did not come home, I noticed hickeys on his neck.
Fueled by suspicion, I confronted him, asking if he was cheating on me.
Maxime simply stared at me, his expression cold and detached, as if I were some irrational stranger.
“Have you had enough of this nonsense?”
“When you’re done, go back to sleep. I don’t want to argue with you.”
“Don’t think being pregnant means I have to be understanding of you endlessly. This is getting ridiculous.”
After that fight, he became even bolder in his behavior. He disappeared for days at a time.
He returned with lipstick smudges and scratches left by another woman.
People around me offered empty advice.
“You’ve been the only one by the famous Mr. Remington’s side for so many years. Now that you’re pregnant, it’s only natural for a man to have needs.”
“Just be grateful he comes home at all. That’s what matters.”
I had no family. Since the day I started dating Maxime Remington, my world had revolved around him.
But now, as I looked around, I realized there was not a single person I could confide in.
To everyone else, I was simply Mrs. Remington, someone to envy for her seemingly perfect life. Yet, not one of them was willing to criticize the man who betrayed our marriage vows.
As I touched my growing belly, doubt gnawed at me.
I could not bring myself to believe that the years we had spent together could be so easily undone by a younger
woman.
The torment of uncertainty consumed me.
In the end, I chose to swallow my pride and reach out to Maxime, seeking reconciliation.
But he ignored me, as cold and detached as ever, until I stumbled upon a text message he had sent.
At first, I thought it was a sign he was willing to mend things, but that illusion was shattered when I realized it was nothing more than Lily’s triumph, her blatant declaration of war against me.

How laughable!
The passionate love of a young man, once steadfast, had proven no match for the temptations of the world.
The eighteen–year–old Maxime had sworn he had fallen for me at first sight, promising a love that would last a lifetime.
But now, in his twenties, Maxime was holding another woman in his arms.
My consciousness dimmed, slipping further with each passing moment.
I could not tell how much time had passed when, suddenly, the lively music outside came to an abrupt stop.
I vaguely heard the sound of someone forcing their way in.
“Excuse us, we’re the security team for the club. During our patrol, we discovered a blood–stained piece of clothing outside.”
“For everyone’s safety, we need to check on all personnel. Please cooperate.”
The drunken crowd reacted, some excitedly shouting back at the guards.
“Happy New Year!”
