Rejection on our Seventh Anniversary

Chapter Nine
Freya’s POV
The first rays of dawn filtered through the dense forest, illuminating the cabin with an almost mocking serenity. I woke with a strange calmness, the kind that follows a decision made with finality. Seven days. That was all I had to sever the bond, to pack up my shattered dreams and reclaim the life I had lost.
Kade had left before sunrise, as he often did now, leaving nothing but the faint scent of his wolf lingering in the air. His absence was no longer a wound–it was a relief. By midday, I found myself in the bedroom, pulling out the pink silks Lila had
“gifted” me. Each garment felt like a brand, burning with the memory of the person I had been before the lies unraveled.
As I folded the last dress, my phone buzzed on the nightstand. Lila’s name flashed on

the screen. My wolf bristled.
“Freya,” her voice dripped with false sweetness, “I hope I’m not disturbing you. I just wanted to check in. I know this must be difficult for you, but I truly hope we can part on good terms.”
My claws extended involuntarily, scraping against the phone‘ s casing. “What do you want, Lila?” I bit out, keeping my tone steady.
She chuckled, a sound that set my wolf‘ S teeth on edge. “Nothing much. Just thought you’d like to know Kade has already started setting up the nursery at the new Pack house. He’s even planning a celebration for the baby‘ s arrival. Isn’t that thoughtful?”
My grip on the phone tightened. The sharp edge of betrayal cut deeper, but I forced myself to stay composed. “How lovely,” I said, my voice icy.
“Oh, I knew you’d be understanding.

Kade always said he wanted to be a father. I feel so much pity for you since things did not work out for you two. But you will be just fine.”
The call ended, her laughter echoing in my ears like a victorious howl. My wolf clawed. at my resolve, demanding vengeance, but I held firm. Rage would come later–first, I

needed answers.
Kade returned that evening. The air grew heavier with his presence, his alpha aura pressing down on the cabin. He was in the living room, scrolling through his phone, when I stepped in.
“Kade,” I said, my voice cold and controlled.
He looked up, startled. “Yes?”
Without a word, I tossed the black envelope onto the coffee table. The property deed slid out, its glossy surface gleaming under the light.

His expression shifted from confusion to alarm. “Freya, I can explain-”
“Don’t,” I snapped, cutting him off. “Don’t insult me with more lies. I
deserve the truth.”
He hesitated, his golden eyes avoiding mine. “It’s not what you think,” he murmured, his voice low.
I let out a bitter laugh, my wolf snarling beneath my skin. “Not what I think? You bought a home for her. You‘ re building a future with her, while leaving me to rot in this hollow shell of a bond.”
His silence was the confirmation, the heavy weight of his guilt pressing flowing into the room like a cloud.
For the first time in forever, I began to feel a strange sense of freedom. This was not just betrayal–it was the final break. THE FINAL.
I stepped back, my claws retracting as I forced calm into my voice. “Six days,” I

said, the words deliberate. “That’s all the time you have to figure out what this bond means to you. After that, I’m gone.”
He opened his mouth as if to say something, exonerate himself maybe, but no words came. I just turned and walked away, my steps firm and sure.
As I reached the bedroom door, I paused.
“And Kade,” I added softly, glancing over my shoulder, “don‘ t think I’ll wait a second longer.
The door closed behind me, as I left him alone in the silence to rethink his choices.
Outside, the wind raged through the trees, carrying with it a sad sense of what was to
come.
