Rejection on our Seventh Anniversary Chapter 7

Rejection on our Seventh Anniversary

Chapter Seven
Freya’s POV
I met Lila’s gaze, my wolf stirring uneasily within me. She radiated smug confidence, but I held her stare with a calm that betrayed nothing. “Is that so?” I said, my voice measured. “He sounds like someone worth waiting for.”
Her smile faltered, just slightly, before she regained her composure. “Oh, he is,” she purred. “Powerful, commanding, and with a presence that turns heads. You might even call him alpha material.”
I turned my attention back to the tome in my hands, its ancient script more comforting than her barbs. My wolf
growled low, sensing the challenge in her tone, but I refused to let her bait me.
Around us, the pack’s attendants bustled about, unloading parcel after parcel from the courier’s truck. The living room was

quickly overtaken by an ocean of garments. in varying shades of blush, fuchsia, and
rose.
The air smelled faintly of the forest beyond the Pack house, but even that couldn‘ t mask the cloying scent of Lila‘ s perfume
a sickly–sweet floral mix that clung to her like an aura of false innocence.
Lila lingered, her gaze flitting between me and the attendants. She was waiting for something–for me to snap, perhaps, or to acknowledge her petty provocations.
When the silence stretched too long for her liking, she tried again. “Luna, don‘ t you ever wonder if men like Kade–strong, dominant alphas–get restless? Surely you‘ ve noticed their insatiable need for variety.”
I kept my focus on the book, though my grip tightened slightly. “I wouldn’t know,” I replied, my tone as indifferent as I could muster. “Perhaps you should ask your mate.”

Her smile turned brittle, the cracks in her mask becoming evident. “Perhaps I will,”
he said, her voice clipped. “Still, it’s fascinating how bonds can shift, don‘ t you think? Even fated mates sometimes. grow bored.”
The page blurred before me, my wolf snapping at the insinuation. I closed the book with deliberate care and stood.
“Fascinating,” I said evenly. “But I have duties to attend to.”
I left her standing there, her expression caught between triumph and frustration. As I walked back inside, the weight of her words settled over me.

Behind the closed door of the Pack house, I leaned against the wood, exhaling shakily. My wolf prowled restlessly, a silent companion to the anger simmering beneath my skin.
The towering stacks of pink dresses, cloaks, and tunics were suffocating, each
one a mockery of the facade Kade carefully

curated for the pack to see. To outsiders, I was a cherished Luna, doted on by an
attentive Alpha. They would never know the truth–the lies whispered in shadows, the betrayals wrapped in pretty packages.
My wolf growled low in my chest, eager to lash out, but I took a calming breath. This wasn’t the time to let emotions take
control. Lila’s words had struck a nerve, but I wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of knowing how deeply.
I walked toward the far corner of the room, where the smallest parcels lay unopened. Among the chaos of the extravagant gifts, I found the one that mattered most–a simple journal. I had started keeping it shortly after realizing that my place in this pack was a precarious balancing act. It was where I poured out the thoughts I couldn’t share with anyone else.
I flipped through its pages now, scanning entries filled with frustration, hope, and determination. Each word was a reminder

of why I couldn’t let people like Lila win. If Kade thought his charm and
manipulations could keep me silenced, he was sorely mistaken.
As the evening shadows deepened, I set the journal aside and approached the window. Outside, the forest loomed, its dense canopy whispering secrets only the wind could hear. Somewhere out there lay the answers I sought–the truths about Kade‘ s duplicity, Lila‘ s boldness, and the fragile balance of power in the pack.
Lila thought she could rattle me, that her taunts would unravel my composure. But she underestimated the strength of a Luna who had been pushed too far.
I ran my fingers over the edge of the windowsill, my wolf pacing restlessly within me. She didn’t like the waiting, the endless facade we were forced to uphold. She wanted action–revenge. And soon, she would have it.

all building to something. The feeling of tension is very thick in the air, like the thick quietness before a storm. They think they could play with fire, but they don’t know that I am the flame they‘ dignited.
As the first stars appeared in the beautiful sky, I whispered to myself, “Soon, all in good time.”
