Return of the Forsaken

Chapter 41
Regina froze, then let out a laugh that sent chills through the room. “My parents are already dead.”
Leonardo stared, stunned. “What?”
Her lips twisted into a twisted, cerie smile. “They’re still in the funeral home freezer. Want to see them?”
Leonardo’s eyes bugged out, disbelief all over his face. “Wait… don’t tell me you-”
It clicked, and his expression flipped to rage. “No matter what they did, they raised you! How can you be so cold–blooded?”
“Cold–blooded?” Regina’s laugh erupted, loud and wild, her body shaking from the pain of her wounds. “You’re calling ME cold–blooded?”
Her laughter broke into a rasp. “I put my life on the line to save you from that beating. Nearly died taking that hit for you. All I asked was for you to show up to my sister’s funeral–one lousy thing–and you couldn’t even do that.”
Leonardo’s face twisted with guilt. Without another word, he turned to leave.

Regina’s voice sliced through the air. “You’ve been kissing up to Roy and his crew for three years here, huh?”
Roy and the others stiffened, their expressions flickering with unease.
Leonardo hesitated, turning slightly. He captured Regina’s confident grin.
Regina’s stare was ice–cold, her voice dropping low. “You’ll never pull it off. Not while I’m here.”
The boys stared, dumbfounded.
Leonardo sneered. “What’s that supposed to mean? You think you can turn them against me? You really believe those rich kids will back you up?” Regina just smiled, saying nothing.
Her silence rattled him. He flung a final jab as he stormed out. “I don’t know how you weaseled into this group, but if you come for me, you’re nowhere near tough enough.”
He went on, “I’ll let it go this time, but cross me again, and don’t expect me to care about the past anymore!”
Then he slammed the door.
Regina was left alone in the room..

Regina sat alone, unfazed, staring at the door. She muttered under her breath, “When you teamed up with the Mitchells and sent me to die in my last life, whatever we had was already gone.”
A deadly spark flickered in her eyes. “Now that I’m reborn, with a fresh shot at this, I’m not letting you off the hook.”
Roy’s eyes widened dully.
And Preston was just completely frozen.
The others gasped in shock.
Reborn? They thought they’d heard it wrong.
Xavier snapped the monitor off, his head spinning. “When she says ‘reborn, does she mean, like, ‘I clawed my way back from hell‘ or something?”
Roy frowned, his brows knitting tightly. “Does this mean she has already died once?”
Steve mulled it over, dead serious. “That’d explain why she popped up out of nowhere looking for Ms. Sherman. Maybe in her past life, the Mitchells took her in, she got tight with Mrs. Sherman, figured out what she needed, and that’s why she went straight to her this time, asking to be
taken in.”
Preston shivered, a chill crawling up his spine. “From what she’s saying, it sounds like the Mitchells and Leonardo screwed her over last time–sent her to die to save Melinda!”
He gaped at the Mitchell brothers. “Is that why she acts like her real parents don’t exist and doesn’t give you guys an inch?
Brad fell silent.

Chapter 41
Clive stood there, dumbfounded.
A boy nervously rubbed his arm, feeling the goosebumps prickling his skin. The smile he once had was long gone. “No way… I thought she was a misunderstood sweetheart, but turns out she’s a demon straight out of hell?”
The others turned their gaze toward Brad and Clive, the air thick with tension.
Xavier and Clive’s faces turned grim.
They still didn’t get it.
Corning back to life? That sounded too unreal.
They were convinced that Regina was bluffing, just to scare the hell out of Leonardo.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
Everyone turned their heads to it.
Regina leaned against the glass window, her stunning crystal–clear eyes sweeping the room. “I’m done talking.”
Her gaze settled on them, and she flashed a sweet, lopsided smile. “You guys can come back in now.”
