Chapter 3
From the early days of her pregnancy, Joanna had been staying with Logan’s mother.
She was the daughter of Alpha Logan’s mother’s old friend, so no one ever questioned their relationship. As her belly grew, Joanna became more desperate to be acknowledged, eager to be recognized as Luna of The Crystal Blood Pack.
She spared no effort in winning everyone over–everyone except Grandma, who remained indifferent to her charms.
To spite me, Joanna even moved into my neighborhood, living directly above mine.
“Luna Melissa, she cooed one day as

I crossed paths with her in the hall, her belly proudly leading the way. “I’m almost due, and the pup needs his father close. You understand, right? I don’t want Alpha Logan running back and forth–it’s just too exhausting for him.”
She might as well have driven a knife into my chest.
Logan’s mother, never one to miss an
opportunity to belittle me, added salt to the wound. “Melissa, Joanna is my dear friend’s daughter. She needs looking after. You don’t mind, do you?”
She held out a pot of steaming soup, her smile smug. “And besides, you wouldn’t be able to eat this anyway. It’s for pregnant shewolf.”
Her poorly crafted excuse was nothing more

than a feeble attot at dignity, but with
Joanna now living right above me, did she really think I was that naive?
Amber, my wolf, growled low in my mind. “Can I bite her now? Just a nibble? Please?”
Logan, predictably, played peacemaker. he turned a blind eye to Joanna’s outrageous behavior. He spoke to me in a low, placating tone, “Melissa, it’s just one month. Once she’s had the pup, my parents won’t bother us anymore.”
He spoke as if he were deeply in love, spending a fortune on various luxuries for me to win my favor, but in the evening, he ended up in Joanna’s arms.
Amber’s earlier optimism about him had turned to disgust.
“He’s rotten,” she muttered. “He’s no mate ui ours anymore.”
In the evening. Joanna sent me the pièce de résistance: a photo of herself lounging provocatively on a bed, Logan half–dressed beside her, his arm draped over her like she was his world. Her smirk practically leapt off the screen.
The accompanying text was even worse.
“Do you know? Alpha Logan treats me so gently. He’s careful not to hurt me… he loves me the most.”
“Alpha Logan and I share true love; you’re the other woman here. He’d rather sleep with me than come to you. Don’t you get it?”
“Why won’t you just divorce him? Why do you insist on coming between our family?
I stared at her cruel words and the secretly recorded video of her sneering at the screen like a madwoman.
I replied with a single text: “If Logan doesn’t
child will always be illegitimate. He
sign, you
will never inherit the Alpha position.”
Then I blocked her. Another second and I’d be sick with disgust. I’d already retched so much, there was nothing left. Forcing myself to endure the pain, I typed out this message and collapsed in the bathtub.
The pain in my body felt like it was casting strange illusions before my eyes. I saw Alpha Logan enter the bathroom and bend down to gently lift me up.
His familiar of mint, cedar and citrus scent filled my senses. It felt like a century had

passed since he’d held me this way. Lately, he’d been spending every night at Joanna’s, vanishing without a trace whenever she summoned him with a single message.
If he had come back to take a look at me, he would have found me unconscious due to vomiting every night, lying in the bathroom until daybreak.
“Melissa,” he murmured softly, his voice tinged with guilt. “Just hang on a little longer. Once Joanna has the baby, I promise I’ll make it up to you.”
I saw his vague figure in my blurred vision as he gently bent down to listen to me.
“You jerk… ”
I mustered the last of my strength, my voice a hoarse whisper “If you don’t sign those

divorce papers, I swear I’ll make you pay.”
As consciousness slipped away, I could feel Amber’s presence flicker weakly in my mind. She, too, was fading.
I could feel that I was really dying, and the time I spent in a coma was getting longer and longer.
