Chapter 33 The Truth Behind the Curtain
Colton’s brow furrowed deeply–none of them had ever seen Quinn like this.
“Quinn, what are you making a scene for?!”
“If I don’t get to see Grandpa today, then yes–I am making a scene!”

Olive walked over and clung to Colton’s arm. “Colton, just let her see Grandpa. She’s only worried about
him.”
Colton hesitated, then glanced at Zayden, who hadn’t said a word since entering. His expression remained calm, eyes fixed solely on Quinn.
In the past, Zayden would’ve stepped in by now. But today, he let Quinn do as she pleased–so Colton kept his mouth shut too. After all, offending Zayden wouldn’t do the Fairchild family any good.
That was exactly why Quinn had brought Zayden with her.
Colton exhaled sharply. “Quinn, I’ve got to admit–you’ve really surprised me today.”
In the end, Colton brought Quinn to see Norman.
The Fairchild family stood not far from the hospital bed, each harboring their own thoughts as they watched Quinn.
She threw herself onto the bed without holding back. Unlike last time, where she had to suppress her emotions, this time she let go completely. Tears burned down her cheeks as she cried for the suffering her grandfather had endured over the years because of her.
“Grandpa, what happened to you? It’s me, Quinn. Wake up. Look at me!”
Norman’s condition had worsened. Last time, he was still able to exchange glances with her. Now, he lay in a deep sleep, unresponsive no matter how she called out.
Quinn’s heart sank. When she turned to look at the Fairchilds, her gaze burned with raw hatred.
“This is how you’ve been taking care of him?!”
Betty stepped forward, moved by how heartbroken Quinn looked, and tried to comfort her.
“Quinn, your grandpa’s been like this for a while. Just a few days ago he was still able to talk to us, but maybe today he’s just not feeling well. We didn’t let you see him because we didn’t want you to get upset.”
The more Betty spoke, the more disgusted Quinn felt. She wiped her tears, stood up, and gently tucked the blanket around Norman.
“What exactly is Grandpa sick with?” Her voice was calm again, the way it always got when she was ready to dig for answers.
The room fell silent. No one responded.

“The Fairchild family has money. After three years, not only is Grandpa not better, he’s worse. Long–term rest? Then why not send him to a better hospital instead of keeping him trapped in this house?”
Afraid Quinn might do something, Xavier stepped in and forcibly pulled her back. “We’ve never given up on Grandpa in these three years. Maybe it’s just his age…”
But Quinn didn’t let him finish. Her voice rang loud and clear through the room.
“If you can’t help him, then let me take him. I’ll find a way to get him treated.”
The Fairchild family visibly tensed. Colton especially looked dark and displeased.
Seeing this, Quinn didn’t hesitate. She turned toward Norman.
Colton blocked her. “Quinn, we’ve been trying for three years with no results. You really think you can cure him? Don’t kid yourself.”
The overpowering scent of perfume near her made her wrinkle her nose. Yet strangely, no one else seemed to notice it.
She kept her suspicions to herself for now and stayed firm in her demand to take Norman.
Xavier also stepped forward. “Grandpa likes being at home. Did you even ask him before deciding to take him away?”
“He used to love being with me more than anyone!”
“Yeah, well, it’s been three years since you’ve been back,” Xavier reminded her with a hint of smugness.
Quinn knew he had a point. She couldn’t take Grandpa away today–not without his consent. This was still his home, after all.
She’d have to heal him first. Let him speak for himself. Let him choose to leave with her.
That was the only way.
Her mind wandered back to the case of the silverleaf flower. She looked around the room at everyone, then turned and embraced her grandfather, holding him tightly for a full minute before walking out without a word.
Zayden, silent like an outsider the entire time, hadn’t said a thing. His calm, unreadable gaze had been on everything, but no one could tell what he was thinking.
The moment Quinn stepped out the door, he finally spoke. “I’m heading ouro.”
Just as he turned to leave, someone grabbed his arm.
Olive stood there, eyes shimmering with tears, biting her lower lip as she looked up at him with a pitiful expression.
“Zayden, is that news about you and Quinn true? I thought you were going to break off the engagement. Have you forgotten how happy we’ve been these past three years?”
