The scarred luna’s rise from ashes

31
Mauve’s POV
Two Weeks Later
I was standing on the balcony, gazing at the playing children and women chatting animatedly. Whenever someone spotted me, they greeted me warmly.
I felt peace for the first time in almost a year. The wheelchair beside me was a reminder of the fate that had brought me here. When my beta offered to get rid of it, I refused.
“Leave it,” I said with a small smile. “It’s a part of my story, just like this pack is. It reminds me of how I rose from
the ashes.”
She nodded.
But as I turned to retreat back into the house, my stomach churned violently, and a sour taste crept into my mouth. I stumbled, barely making it to the bathroom before I vomited.

Leaning against the sink, I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my breath hitching.
My hand drifted to my abdomen. Since when was the last time I had my period? I couldn’t remember.
That day, I immediately went to Dr. Helen’s clinic at Shadowpine Hospital.
I swallowed hard, trying to ignore the nausea swirling in my stomach–not from morning sickness but from raw, undeniable fear. My hands trembled as I gripped the edge of the examination table, experiencing a sense of
precariousness that I couldn’t escape.
Dr. Helen’s voice broke through the silence.
“Mauve you’re carrying twins Identical pirls” she said her fingers hovering over the ultrasound screen.
My stomach clenched, and the walls of the room seemed to close in on me. I reached for my stomach instinctively as I whispered, “I wasn’t supposed to have twin girls. My lips trembled, and a hot sting pricked behind
my eyes.
Dr. Helen’s usually composed expression shattered into unease. “Mauve, this is serious. You know what this
means, don’t you?”
Identical twin girls. A bad omen. A curse
I clenched my fists in my lap, my nails digging into my palms until pain blossomed. The prophecy. The one that had haunted me my entire life, the one that stole my twin sister Magnolia from me. If the Elders found out, they would demand the same fate for my babies.
Alpha King Elias. One night. That’s all it took. I had convinced myself it was nothing, a moment of weakness.

I could erase. But now there were two lives growing inside me, two precious souls that the world would see as a
threat
My lower lip trembled as I bit down hard enough to taste blood. “Why is this happening to me? I thought I’d find peace of mind since Jester was gone and I’m back to Shadowfang?”
Maybe this was my punishment. I had done the same sin as Jester and Amber. I had fallen for Elias, who was already mated to another woman, I shamelessly slept with him while my poor twin was in a vegetative state
I’m a despicable person, just like them. And now, I was facing the consequences of my actions in the most unexpected way possible.
‘Please don’t say that,‘ my wolf whispered. I could feel her hurt in my head. She could feel the weight of my guilt and self–loathing, and it pained her to see me in such distress. “You did nothing. Mauve. You have no intention of breaking them. Don’t compare your actions to theirs. You are not despicable, just flawed like everyone else.”
Dr. Helen’s face was pale, her eyes flicking between me and the ultrasound. “You have to be careful, Mauve. If word of this gets out, the pups‘ will be in danger.
“I know,” I cut in sharply. My arms tightened protectively around my stomach, my entire body coiling with tension. “No one can know, Helen. No one.
Dr. Helen sighed, her shoulders sagged. “You’ll have to stay ahead of this, Mauve. You understand that, don’t you? But despite everything, your babies are a blessing in disguise. Just remember to keep them safe, no matter
what”
The thoughts of my parents throwing Magnolia away resurfaced. But I don’t want to make the same decision as my parents. They handed Magnolia away as though she was a kitten they no longer wanted. I won’t do the same to my babies. They’re mine, and I’ll protect them at all costs.”
Dr. Helen studied me for a long moment. “Okay. So what will you do?”
I lifted my chin. “I’ll step down as alpha.”
