The doctor told me that if I continued playing the piano recklessly, my hand could be permanently damaged.
Rafael held my hand, hot tears dripping onto the back of my hand. “Lily, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s all Jenna‘ s fault. If it weren’t for her, we wouldn’t have had so many misunderstandings.”
I let out a cold laugh. “Rafael, the one who has always hurt me is you. Jenna was just the excuse you used to hurt me.”
Rafael cried even harder. “Lily, I know I’ve wronged you. Please, just give me one. last chance.”
I knew I couldn’t stay here. After visiting my teacher, I was supposed to go back.
Besides, I knew that if I stayed, Rafael would continue to harass me.

Chapter 10
Right now, I just wanted a peaceful life. Seeing Rafael only brought back painful memories.
I took a taxi to the airport, but suddenly, a car sped toward me.
I didn’t have time to avoid it. Just as I was about to be hit, someone pushed me out of the way.
When I looked back, the person who had saved me was sent flying several meters by the car, blood staining the ground.
I trembled as I walked toward the person— it was Rafael.
He closed his eyes and, covered in blood, smiled weakly at me. “Lily, forgive me, please.”
The person who had hit me with the car was Jenna.
She was injured, her hair disheveled, and her eyes full of hatred. “Lily, why don’t you just die!”

“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have ended up like this–my life was ruined! That bastard Rafael drove you away, and now he’s pretending to care. Do you really think he loves you? If he did, he wouldn’t have cheated on you!”
I looked at the crazed Jenna and walked straight up to her, slapping her hard. “He is the culprit, but you knew he was married. Yet, you still chose to be the mistress. There’s no good ending for someone like you!”
In the end, Jenna was sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter.
Because of Rafael’s accident, I had to stay at the hospital to take care of him.
His family had gradually passed away over the years, and now, the only one left to care for him was me.
After learning that he had only broken both his legs and wasn‘ t in any life- threatening danger, I made the firm

decision to leave.
More than ten years later, when I returned to the country to settle down, I
coincidentally ran into one of Rafael‘ s friends.
He told me that Rafael had entered a
Buddhist monastery.
After Jenna was released from prison, Rafael tortured her until she died in the
winter.
Another New Year’s Eve came, and I climbed up to a temple, praying for the well–being of my unborn child, wishing for him to be born into a loving family with parents who adored him.
As the New Year’s Eve bell rang and the sky lit up with brilliant fireworks, I looked up and tears fell.
In a corner of the temple, a monk looked at the fireworks in the sky, hands pressed together in prayer. “May my Lily be safe and joyful every year.”
