Chapter 414
“D*mn you…” King’s entire body shook, unsure if it was due to sorrow or fury.
Next to him, Leon, typically known for his aloofness, also sported red eyes.
What was Oliver implying? Deep down, they both suspected his lofty justifications were likely mere reassurances to pacify them, apprehensive of their potential distress.
But how could they remain unaffected?
He was their best friend, someone who had stood by them through every trial and triumph for years, a buddy who would willingly put himself in harm’s way to protect the others. The connection between them was beyond words, impossible to fully capture in mere descriptions.
With a loud slap, King struck himself hard on the cheek, instantly causing it to swell.
“It’s my mistake. I shouldn’t have been so severe. I was aware… His voice broke, unable to continue.
He realised his words were sharp, he understood the hurt they caused Oliver. He knew Oliver would never deceive them. Why couldn’t he control his anger?
Oliver seemed relaxed, but he was quite emotional. He feared that his presence might jeopardize their mission and couldn’t bear the guilt of seeing his friends in Halturia killed before his eyes. So, he chose to poison himself into silence.
He really was a gentle person!
Next to him, Leon lifted a hand to stop another self- imposed strike, regret evident on his face. “It’s not only your responsibility, it’s mine as well.”
If he had stepped in during King’s outburst or offered more solace to Oliver, maybe things wouldn’t have escalated.
Noticing their regret, Oliver became uncomfortable. He opened his mouth, wanting to offer some comfort, but as soon as he opened his mouth, the metallic taste he’d just managed to swallow surged back up. Unable to suppress it any longer, he coughed up a mouthful of bright red blood, staining the front of his clothes.
The air was instantly filled with the stench of fresh blood and the scent of death, a combination so overwhelming it brought an inescapable sense of hopelessness.
In a state of anxiety, King exclaimed, “Oliver, are you okay? We need to locate a doctor to treat your injury. Leon, contact Mr. Yarbrough!”
Without hesitation, he bent down and effortlessly lifted Oliver into his arms, his steps quick and urgent as he rushed towards the door.
Leon responded, “Okay!”
Halturia, the next morning on the island.
Milly woke up to discover George missing from bed, his coat laid across her.
She leaned in to sniff gently, the crisp scent of soap mingling with a hint of faint cedar, pleasantly fragrant. Suddenly, a phrase she read online came to mind. If a wealthy person is willing to invest emotions in you, then they must truly love you.
Milly buried her head into the coat, inhaling the pleasant scent lingering on it, while giggling foolishly to herself.
From now on, this aloof idol of the masses would be hers. Just thinking about it made her genuinely happy.
The more she thought about it, the happier and more excited she became. Unable to contain herself, she grabbed the coat and started rolling around on the bed.
When George returned, this was the scene he walked in
on.
He chuckled softly as he approached, lifting the coat covering her head. “Are you awake? If you are, let’s get up. I noticed there were still plenty of noodles in William’s suitcase. Do you want some? I can satisfy you.”
Milly was caught in the midst of her joyous excitement and was taken by surprise. Her face flushed with embarrassment, she only heard the latter part of his sentence clearly. She replied nervously, “You … will satisfy me?”
George didn’t notice her reaction and thought she was just contemplating. He nodded and said, “Hmm, if you want to.”
Milly swallowed hard, her throat tightening. She glanced nervously at the nearby camera, then back at a certain part of his body, finding it difficult to speak. ‘We’ve only just started dating… Isn’t it too soon? And also…
“There are others around, with cameras!”
George stayed quiet.
At first, he indeed hadn’t caught on, but upon hearing this and seeing her visibly blushing with shyness, he couldn’t help but realise. Ignoring further would make him seem like a fool.
He lightly tapped her forehead and expressed with a touch of resignation, “What’s going on in that mind of yours? I was talking about noodles.”
“Oh… noodles.”
Milly’s voice carried a tinge of disappointment.
Arching his eyebrows slightly, George grinned and leaned sideways, obscuring the camera behind him. Leaning closer to Milly’s ear, his tone a blend of seriousness and flirtation, he murmured, “If you truly wish, we’ll wait until we’re back home, and I’ll satisfy you.”
His gentle exhale against Milly’s ear conveyed a feeling of allure and temptation.
Even after experiencing another lifetime and growing older in mind, the fact that she had remained unmarried in her past existence caused her to blush at his daring remarks. She stuttered while gently reprimanding him, “You… have no decency!”
“Hehe!” George chuckled quietly.
She played the role of seducer, yet she was also the one delivering a scolding.
What made her bold enough to flirt with someone who had abstained from intimacy for more than two decades?
However, let’s proceed cautiously. Moving too quickly to define the relationship might intimidate her and negate all previous efforts.
George straightened himself, tousled her hair gently, and remarked, “Okay, no more playing around. Get up, brush your teeth, wash your face, and I’ll prepare breakfast for you.”
“Alright.”
Despite Milly and George now being officially together, she made a deliberate attempt to maintain boundaries in their interactions for the sake of her career, ensuring that the live-streaming viewers remained unaware.
Yet, the online audience appeared more astute than they had expected.
‘Hmm? Is it just me, or does anyone else feel a connection between Milly and Charlie after last night?’
‘Yeah, I thought so too. The way Charlie looks at Milly is reminiscent of how a boyfriend gazes at his girlfriend!
‘It’s strange. They didn’t do much, barely exchanged words this morning, yet there’s this intimate aura between them. It’s difficult to put into words, but it’s palpable! Do you sense it?’
‘Yes, especially when Charlie handed her the towel, it was so tender, it practically squeezed out the water, and Milly’s smile was so sincere!’
‘I feel like there’s something happening between them!’
‘What foolish talk are you spreading? Gossiping is not acceptable, you know? Milly is simply charismatic, that’s all!’
‘Indeed, those shippers are quite annoying, watching a variety show like Untamed Horizons and attempting to interpret romance from it? If you seek romance, watch a romantic drama instead!’
