Her Perfect Life After Divorce

Chapter 161: Mr. Cassius’s Secret Surfaces
The car twisted and turned through narrow alleys.
Thanks to the driver’s skill, they managed to squeeze through the tightest corners.
Finally, they reached the end of the village.
Gemma was stunned.
This place was nothing like the other areas slated for demolition.
Those places were chaotic.
Some people, hoping for more compensation, had built illegal structures, and garbage was everywhere, emitting an indescribable stench.
But here, Pine trees stretched as far as the eye could see.

Even in autumn, the greenery was lush and vibrant.
The air felt fresher too.
Amid the Pine trees stood a small courtyard.
The gate was ancient, reminiscent of early 20th–century architecture.
The gate was slightly ajar.
They got out of the car and pushed it open.
The courtyard had three rooms–the largest in the center, flanked by two smaller side rooms.
Everything was square and orderly, giving off a somewhat…
Gemma glanced around.
The taller Pine trees blocked sunlight from reaching the courtyard and the main house.
Even in broad daylight.
The place felt eerie.
“This doesn’t seem like a place for people to live,” she whispered, lightly tugging Cassius’s sleeve.
But Cassius didn’t respond, his gaze fixed on the main house.
Suddenly!
A noise came from inside the main house.
In this eerie atmosphere, it sounded particularly unsettling.
Gemma felt her heart leap into her throat.
The door creaked open.
Her heart trembled.
Then, she saw a familiar figure with gray hair.
“This…”
Vincent!
Her patient!
They had searched high and low for him,
And here he was, hiding in this place!
“Why did you run here? Do you know how bad your heart is? You can’t exert yourself, and you shouldn’t be alone!”
Her professional instincts kicked in.
*Also, you sneaked out, and you’ve missed your oral medication. This will affect your recovery, don’t you know that?”
“You might have escaped successfully, but everyone from the department head to your assigned nurse will be punished because of you.”
‘Come back with me now!”
Her anger overshadowed her fear.
She strode over, grabbed the old man’s sleeve, and tried to pull him away.
Shawn was terrified
This old man had a terrible temperi
Once, when Cass had tried to talk to him nicely, the old man had thrown him out.
Shawn had almost gotten beaten up too.

Instinctively, he wanted to step in and help.
But then, something shocking happened.
The old man, known for his fiery temper, actually let

Then, he snorted.
“Little girl, are you with him?”
Gemma rolled her eyes.
her pull him along without resistance.
“If it weren’t for his help, how could I have found you so quickly? Any later, and you’d have missed your afternoon IV…”
She was ranting when she suddenly realized something was off.
Earlier, Shawn had mentioned that this was Mr. Cassius’s grandfather.
But now, Mr. Cassius was here.
And the old man was glaring at him with rage.
How could she have been so bold!
“Ahem.”
She quickly let go, forcing an awkward but polite smile.
Yikes!
How could she explain herself to sound more sincere?
Vincent’s displeased gaze remained fixed on Cassius.
As if this wasn’t his grandson.
But his enemy.
“Hmph!”
He let out cold laughs.

Completely oblivious to the doctor standing awkwardly beside him.
After a pause, he said coldly.
“Impressive. You finally found a reason to come here.”
“The demolition plans–that’s your doing, isn’t it?”
By the end, he was practically spitting venom!
The intensity of his anger scared Gemma, who quickly reached out to stop him.
“You can’t get agitated or angry right now. It could trigger a relapse. Here, take deep breaths with me. Inhale… exhale…”
She was so worried Vincent might run off again that she forced him to calm down.
Vincent’s anger had just flared up, but her interruption defused it.
“Hmph!”
He shook off her hand angrily.
‘Let’s go back to the hospital!”
With that, he walked out and got into their car.
Huh?
What kind of riddle was this?
Why couldn’t she understand?
She looked at Shawn.
Shawn wore an expression that said, “I know nothing, pretend I’m not here.”
She had no choice but to let it go.
She cautiously glanced at Cassius.
Cassius was a master at hiding his emotions. Despite Vincent’s sarcastic and biting remarks, his composure didn’t waver.
“Uh, I’ll take the old man back first. I’ll send someone to pick you up later.”
Shawn, sensing danger, decided it was safer to make a quick exit.
Soon
The courtyard fell silent again.
Only the soft rustling of Pine tree leaves in the breeze could be heard.

The sun shifted its position.
A few rays of sunlight filtered into the courtyard.
It fell around Cassius, making him appear even lonelier and more somber.
“Shall we go inside?”
Gemma tried to sound casual.
Since they were here, they might as well not waste the trip.
And what the old man had said about the demolition being Cassius’s idea–that was packed with implications.
It had piqued her curiosity.
Cassius stood still, speaking softly.
So softly, as if afraid of disturbing someone.
“No.”
Gemma was taken aback.
Though he refused…
She could sense a deep reverence in him for whatever–or whoever–was inside the main house.
She was puzzled.
What was in there?
Though curious…
This was clearly a private matter.
She couldn’t pry too much.
But the place was too eerie to stay in, so she suggested,
“If you don’t want to go in, shall we take a walk outside?”
Cassius didn’t answer.
His gaze remained fixed on the main house.
Not even blinking.
Gemma felt even more uneasy.
Was this…
“Then, should I go in and take a look?”
Only then did Cassius turn to look at her.
Perhaps realizing she felt cold, he took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders.
“Alright.”
The coat still carried his warmth.
And a faint, indescribable scent.
Her senses were overwhelmed by him.
Her heart raced again, and her cheeks felt warm.
“Then, uh, I’ll, I’ll go now.”
She stumbled over her words.
Frustrated, she wanted to slap herself.
Before Cassius could notice, she quickly walked forward.
Whatever was inside.
It had to be better than enduring this awkward scene.
She pushed open the heavy wooden door again.
The room was pitch dark.
It took her a while to adjust and see the interior.
But the next moment!
Her eyes widened in shock!
She turned sharply toward the door.
