Her Perfect Life After Divorce

Chapter 26: Gemma, Stop Pestering Max.
“Are you sure?”
As Alijah took a bite of a chicken leg, Marcus purposely moved the remaining fries out of reach and asked.
Alijah immediately reached out for the fries.
“Of course I’m sure. I don’t want that bland stuff. I want fries! Dad, give me the fries.”
Marcus chuckled, tossing him the fries
He then grabbed his phone and walked out of the room, dialing Gemma’s number.
Since he was still using someone else’s phone, the call didn’t take long to connect.
Gemma’s voice sounded tired.

“Hello? Who’s this?”
“Gemma, really?”
Marcus’s tone was full of sarcasm. “Do you really think a meal is gonna make Ali speak up for you?”
Gemma, who was busy writing up a patient’s case, paused as she heard his voice.
“Hmm, if he doesn’t want it, just have the delivery guy return the food.”
Her response was as flat as ever, but it left Marcus fuming.
He was instantly furious.
“You’ve got a lot of tricks up your sleeve these days. What’s this? Playing hard to get? Or are you trying to distract me?”
Gemma’s tone grew more impatient. “Stop trying to make yourself sound more dramatic. Who wants to listen to a crazy dog barking all the time?”
“Gemma, seems like you still haven’t learned your lessons!”
“I can spot trash from a mile away. Funny enough, Mr. Wilson is exactly that.”
“Gemmal”
“Don’t bite
your
teeth too hard, or your words might slip out. Just hearing you talk makes me want to puke.”
“You really don’t want to go back to the Wilson family?”
“I’ve got my own place. Of course, I don’t want to stay in a shithole.”
Marcus’s face turned red with anger, and he slammed the phone against the wall
The phone shattered instantly.
The call was cut off abruptly.
The nurse who had lent him the phone could only stare.
Seriously?
Couldn’t this psycho fight his battles without dragging her into it?
Marcus entered the room, clearly irritated.
No one dared to challenge him.
His mood was dark enough to light up the entire hospital.
The nurse had no choice but to go to his assistant to complain, and in the end, she received financial compensation.
Gemma finished organizing the cases and began entering the data into the computer. There was a lot to do, and since she had taken a day off, she had to work overtime to finish.
She was more frustrated than a ghost at this point.
But after ranting at Marcus, she felt like a new person.
Chapter 26: Gemma, Stop Pestering Max
Clearly, abusing some jerk was the best way to get back into a good headspace.
When her shift ended, Brian showed up.
Seeing that she was still busy, he quietly sat down and helped her.

His efficiency was impressive.
So, what was supposed to be overtime for Gemma ended up being a regular shift.
“Brian, you’re a genius!”
She beamed at him, saving the data, sending it to her email, and shutting down the computer in one smooth motion, impressed by herself.
Brian smiled gently.
“Well, when you do something enough, you pick up a few tricks.”
Gemma gave him a thumbs–up. “You’re doing so much, and still keeping such a cool temper? You’ve got to be the Doctor of the Year.”
Brian’s smile widened, and he waved his hand. “You’re overdoing it.”
Then, he finally spoke up.
“That day at the amusement park, you…”
Gemma had been taken away by Mr. Cassius, and though Brian had seen it with his own eyes, it was a bit of a mystery, so he was curious about the details.
“Oh, it was a total accident”
She didn’t want to reveal her relationship with Mr. Cassius.
Besides, that man was unpredictable–who knew how long his promise to keep her safe would last?
It was better not to stir the pot any further.
“I actually got really scared and took Noah and left. You’re not mad, are you?”
Brian raised an eyebrow. “Do I look like I’m mad?”
“Well, no, not really. You’ve always had such a good temper.”
“Anyway, I came here today because I wanted to remind you of something.”
“Huh?”
Brian looked at her, his eyes full of confusion, his gaze drenched in “I’m all ears.”
It made his heart race a liule.
“That day, I saw you with Mr. Cassius.”
“He’s dangerous. We regular folks should stay clear of him.”
Gemma agreed completely.
“I’ll be honest with you. Right now, all I can think about is finishing up the report on my international project and getting the director’s approval.”
Brian immediately understood. “You want that promotion and raise, huh?”
Gemma had asked–for twenty million when she divorced, but after one trip abroad, she realized how quickly money could. slip through her fingers. She needed to make something of herself.
“Exactly. I wish I could become chief physician right now.”
Brian patted her on the shoulder. “Now’s the perfect time. Want to practice your surgery skills? It’s a good prep for the academic forum.”
Gemma grabbed her bag as the computer finally shut down. “Let’s go. I’ve got something I want to ask you, but don’t you dare say no.”
Brian chuckled. “Only if you pay me the tuition.”
Gemma, half–serious, asked, “How much per hour?”
