Her Perfect Life After Divorce

Chapter 5: Saving a Life and a Turning Point
The same guard from earlier–the one who looked like he’d eat someone alive–saw Gemma fussing over the kid, and his anger boiled over. The veins on his forehead looked ready to pop.
At his signal, several guards rushed over, their murderous expressions suggesting they wanted to tear Gemma limb from limb.
“Stand down!”
A sharp voice cut through the tension.
The guards instantly lowered their heads and stepped aside.
Gemma turned toward the voice.
A man strode forward, wearing nothing but a black shirt with three buttons undone.
As he moved closer, the shirt shifted, revealing glimpses of a lean, toned chest. His tall frame exuded cold authority, and his sharp features were unreadable as he looked down at her with an indifferent gaze

The only detail that hinted at depth was the string of black beads on his wrist, swaying slightly, adding a mysterious edge.
Gemma cautiously spoke. “Are you this child’s father?”
The child’s condition had stabilized and would recover with proper care, so she needed to give e instructions.
The man shook his head.
“Uh what?”
“He’s my nephew. Just tell me how he’s doing.”
He paused, then added in a low tone, as if to ease the tension.
“Don’t worry.
I won’t make things difficult for someone who stepped in to help.”
Gemma let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding
She’d thought she was done for, given how things were escalating earlier,
Thankfully, this man was reasonable.
“It’s acute pharyngitis, possibly with a viral infection. I recommend taking him to the hospital for further tests as soon as possible,” she explained.
“The boy’s stable now, but he needs plenty of rest. And try to keep him from crying or getting too upset–it could worsen
his condition.”
As she finished, the boy opened his eyes, sat up, and glanced at the man before looking at Gemma with sparkling admiration.
The man, satisfied the child was awake, nodded slightly. “Thank you.
Gemma smiled. “It’s my duty as a doctor to save lives.”
The man gestured to a nearby guard, who handed over a sleek black card.
“This is your compensation.”
His voice was calm, but his tone left no room for argument,
Gemma hesitated. “Uh.. sorry to ask, but how much is on this card?”
Ten million.”
The number hit her like a ton of bricks. “Wait, how much?”
The man frowned. “Not enough?”
“No, no, it’s more than enough,” Gemma stammered.
She was overwhelmed.
“I appreciate it, but my fee for emergency care isn’t that high. I’m a licensed doctor, not-
Chapter 5: Saving a Life and a Turning Point
“You misunderstood,” he interrupted.
“I’m asking you to watch over the child until the plane lands.”
Oh. That made sense. Gemma had planned to keep an eye on the boy anyway to ensure he didn’t relapse.
She nodded.
“All right.”
The man seemed satisfied. He left with his entourage, disappearing somewhere on the plane like he didn’t have a care in the world.
Gemma shook her head at his nonchalance.

Still, she focused on her patient, checking his condition.
The boy seemed much better, and she felt a wave of relief.
Standing by the window, she admired the thick clouds outside.
For the first time in a while, she felt genuinely fulfilled
Saving this child reminded her why she became a doctor–it gave her a sense of purpose she hadn’t felt in a long time.
Just as she was lost in thought, she heard a soft rustling behind her.
It sounded like the little hamster Ali had always begged her to get
Gemma froze, and the sound stopped.
After a moment, it came again–rustle, rustle.
She turned around, but there was no one there.
Was someone playing with her?
She frowned, ready to investigate, when a tiny hand gently tugged on her coat.
Looking down, she found herself face–to–face with the boy
He flashed a shy, awkward grin, clearly not used to smiling, but it made him all the more endearing.
His pale skin and long lashes framed his big, watery eyes
The sheer cuteness tugged at her heart.
Sensing her affection, the boy nuzzled her hand like a kitten.
“What’s your name?” she asked, ruffling his hair.
The boy tilted his head, smiled, and held her hand. His voice was soft and sweet.
“Noah Noah Raven”
Gemma smiled back. “Nice to meet you, Noah. I’m Gemma Kelestine. You can call me Dr. Kelestine or Ms. Kelestine.”
“Ms. Kelestine,” Noah repeated seriously.
Gemma nodded.
The boy then beamed, revealing adorable dimples.
So adorable!
This plane seemed outfitted just for Noah, complete with toys everywhere.
Gemma played with him while keeping an eye on his recovery.
Her experience with Alijah had prepared her well–Noah was a breeze by comparison.
Before long, Noah looked up at her, his face full of admiration.
“Gemumma, you’re amazing! Even better than Uncle!”
Gemma laughed gently. “Well, if I’m that amazing, are you ready to take your medicine?”
Noah, ever the honest little guy, nodded and downed his medicine without a fuss.
As the plane landed, a guard came to escort Noah away.
Chapter 4: Saving a Life and a Turning Point
Though she felt a twinge of sadness, Gemma waved him off with a smile
She thought this little adventure was over.
Soon, she was busy with her work here.
But three days later, just as she returned to her dorm after finishing her rounds, she saw a familiar guard waiting outside.
Her heart skipped a beat.
“No way,” she muttered. “I saved the kid, and now they’re here to cause me trouble?”
This time, the guard was much more polite. “Ms. Kelestine, you misunderstand. Mr. Raven would like to see you. He hopes you’ll oblige.”
Gemma raised a brow, suddenly worried.
“Is something wrong with Noah?”
The guard’s face darkened slightly. “Please, come with me.”
They brought her to what could only be described as a castle, complete with fountains, fake mountains, and opulent decor dripping with wealth.
Gemma barely noticed the extravagance as she followed the guard upstairs to a room.
But when she saw what was inside, she froze in shock.
