A complex emotion flickered in his eyes before he slowly spoke. “I’m just concerned about you. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
I sighed, feeling a mix of emotions.
Ethan’s care made me feel heartwarming, but I also felt a bit pressured by it because I didn’t want him to misunderstand or act impulsively.
“Ethan, I know you mean well, but Kevin and I are nothing more than friends. We’re both working hard to expose Mr. Barnes’ crimes. I hope you understand.” I tried to keep my tone sincere.
He was silent for a moment before nodding. “Okay, I believe you. But you need to be careful. Mr. Barnes isn’t easy to deal with.”
I looked at him gratefully and nodded. “I will. Thank you, Ethan.”
He smiled with a warmth glimmering in his eyes. “Don’t mention it. Come on, I’ll walk you back to your dorm.”
As we strolled through the campus, the golden glow of the setting sun bathed us in warmth and tranquility.
I felt a sense of peace I hadn’t experienced before, as if all my worries had evaporated at that moment.
I thought everything would remain calm before he suddenly showed a hint of tenderness.
“There’s something I want to talk to you about. I don’t have any ties with anyone else, and I don’t want you to be with anyone, either. I hope we can have a real talk about our relationship.”
I was the one who shamelessly pursued him back then, but he eventually gave up on me. Now, how could we possibly talk about a relationship?
“Do you feel sorry for me, or do you think I need company in a foreign place?” I was curious about his thoughts and desire to be with me. It felt absurd.
“No, it’s neither of those.”
He stopped walking, looking at me earnestly before adding, “I admit my feelings for you weren’t pure at first, but over time, I realized I genuinely like you. It’s not about your background or anything else. I just like you for who you are.”
I was taken aback, surprised by his direct confession. My heart raced, leaving me somewhat flustered.
“I-I don’t know what to say,” I stammered, overwhelmed by everything I had been through lately. I wanted to accept him, to give myself a chance.
He gently took my hand, his gaze resolute. “I know you might not be able to accept me right now, but I hope you’ll give me a chance to show you that I sincerely like you.” Feeling the warmth of his hand brought a mix of emotions. My feelings for him had always been complicated, but I could sense his sincerity at that moment.
“I-I don’t know how to respond,” I admitted. “We come from different backgrounds. I’m afraid-“
H”I understand your concerns, but please have faith in me. I will handle everything,” he interrupted softly, conveying his thoughts clearly.
It felt like he was making a promise. He released my hand but maintained his determined gaze.
“Once I sort everything out, I want to take our relationship seriously. I hope you can give me some time. I don’t want misunderstandings to ruin any chances we might have.” He genuinely wanted to be with me, but I wasn’t sure how many chances we had. Still, I was willing to give it a go.
