What is this?
Every word, every sentence he didn’t say it outright, but every word, every sentence was a farewell to her! This was his plan for life after saying goodbye to her. “Ha, hahaha…” Caroline suddenly burst into laughter, louder and louder.
“Ms. Bennett?” Charles approached upon hearing her, concern etched on his face. “Are you alright?”
“Alright?”
Caroline abruptly stopped laughing, her gaze icy as she stared straight ahead. Her voice was calm, as if nothing had happened, “I’m perfectly fine.”
But deep down, she knew that from now on, she was on her own. Gilbert had such a cruel heart; he just left her behind, not even bothering to say goodbye in person!

Just after seven, Gilbert left the Harrison Group headquarters.
“Mr. Nine, where to?”

Gilbert gave an address. Sherilyn was attending a script reading session for a new play today, and he was going to pick her up. Of course, Sherilyn hadn’t told him this herself. It was Blake who had let the information slip. A taxi pulled out from a side street.
“Follow that Bentley.”
“Sure thing.”

After the meeting, Sherilyn walked out of the main entrance and immediately spotted Gilbert standing by the car door. “Sherilyn!”
Sherilyn was momentarily taken aback but quickly realized that him knowing her whereabouts was a piece of cake for him. Gilbert smiled as he approached her, his gaze on her fresh, makeup-free face, “All done? Shall we go? I’ll give you a ride.” Sherilyn struggled internally, wanting to reject him. “We agreed, only if you and Caroline are over…”
“It’s over.”
He cut her off before she could finish.
Sherilyn froze, her shoulders involuntarily tensing, “What… did you say?”
Gilbert’s feelings were complicated at that moment. He knew this was what Sherilyn had wanted, but to say he was happy about ending things with Caroline would be a lie. They’d known each other for so many years. Even if there was no romantic love, there was friendship, gratitude, and guilt… For his own selfish reasons, he’d cut off a relationship of over a decade, and it wasn’t without pain.
Gilbert took a shallow breath, steadying himself. His eyes fixedzon her, he spoke slowly and clearly, “I’ve made arrangements. From now on, I’ll treat only you well, only have eyes for you, only listen to you.”
Sherilyn’s lips parted slightly, too shocked to speak. “How… how is this possible?”
“This is true.” Gilbert extended his hand, trying to hold hers, “You asked for it, and I’ve done it, so, Sherilyn…” “Why?”
Sherilyn couldn’t hear what he was saying; her mind was in turmoil, filled with questions.
“Why what?” Gilbert frowned, not quite understanding, “Isn’t this what you wanted?”

“Yes.” Gilbert nodded, even more puzzled, “Is there a problem?”
He’d done as she asked. Wasn’t that right?
“Sherilyn.”
He tightened his grip on her hands, holding them in his, lowered his head so his forehead touched hers. “Promises must be kept, you promised me…”
Before he could finish, Sherilyn
suddenly pulled away, pushing him
back with force. Her eyes wide, she looked at him as if he were a stranger, “Have you lost your mind? Do you even know what you’re doing? That’s Caroline! Caroline, who you’ve always valued more than yourself!”
“No.”
Sherilyn didn’t believe him, “This can’t be possible!”
