Lysander stood like a solemn statue outside the emergency room, his usually stoic face now etched with worry. The intense concern in his deep-set eyes was undeniable as he fixated on the glowing sign above the door, each illuminated letter searing into him like a harsh, unbearable light.
With each passing second, his anxiety grew more acute.
David hurried over, his face a mask of serious tension as he briefed his boss, “Mr. Sinclair, the internet is blowing up with rumors that Evelyn was with Bruce, claiming she broke up a family. The online vitriol is vicious.”
The insults hurling through cyberspace were far worse than David’s sanitized report. The hateful slurs were almost too much to bear.
David couldn’t fathom why people could be so venomous, especially towards someone they didn’t even know, spewing such heartless bile.
Lysander’s face turned stormy, his voice icy as he commanded, “Tell Captain Payne to throw the book at Bruce! I want the maximum sentence.”
“Understood. I’ll make sure the captain gets the message,” David nodded, before reluctantly continuing, “After Evelyn left the police station, she didn’t head straight to Star Harbor Villa. Instead, she ended up at Vibrant Oasis Residences’ card room, where she was met with judgmental stares and whispers from her old friends…”
His voice trailed off, sensing the difficulty of continuing.
A chilling glare from Lysander urged him on, the implied threat in his boss’s eyes enough to tighten his spine.
Swallowing hard, David delivered the rest of his report, “Before her tragic accident, received a call from Lucy. Right after hanging up, she… she ran to a speeding truck.
The weight of the news hung heavy in the air. Today was supposed to be the day Lys proposed to Thalassa, but instead, tragedy had struck. Thalassa had lost her mother-how immense her pain must be.
Lysander clenched his jaw, his eyes blazing with fury. “Find out what was said on that
call!”
“I’m on it,” David assured, already on the move.
Phone companies briefly recorded call content for quality and security purposes. With Evelyn’s number in hand, David made his way to the telecommunications provider and soon uncovered the shocking truth.
Even the seasoned David was stunned into numbness upon hearing the devastating revelation-Bruce had AIDS and had infected Evelyn.

This had to be the final blow that pushed Evelyn over the edge.
Upon returning to the hospital with the grim facts, David reported back to Lysander, whose icy gaze now held a storm of rage and suppressed fury.
Bruce, the despicable bastard, knew he was infected and still passed it on to Evelyn!
Lysander’s contempt was palpable. “Inform the hospital to take extra precautions with Evelyn’s body,” he ordered coldly.
David promptly conveyed the instructions.
Two months had passed since Bruce’s assault on Evelyn. She must have been carrying the virus, and after the accident, covered in blood, there was a risk of infection if anyone in the hospital came into contact with her.
With David’s timely warning, the medical staff expressed gratitude and reassured him that they were taking every precaution, including wearing gloves.
Only when he knew they were being careful did David allow himself a moment of relief.
An hour later, the door to the emergency room finally swung open.
Lysander strode forward, his face tense with anticipation, “How is she?” he asked.
