“Nina was taken! We need to find Captain. Ile’s the only one who can save her,” Arin said, pacing frantically. “Where is he? I need to tell him quickly.”
“Nina sent someone to get him when you disappeared. He should be back soon.”
As soon as Arin heard the sound of a car, she knew Nash had returned. She rushed out to meet him, seeing his serious expression as he got out of the car.
“Captain, Nina’s been taken! You need to save her!”
Nash’s expression darkened. “Who took her?”
“I don’t know,” Arin cried. “I didn’t ask enough questions. They were after Nina. She’s in danger. We need to save her…”
Arin’s clues were sparse, but Nash had a pretty good idea who might be involved. There were only a few people around here who would have a grudge against Nina. It had to be them, especially Miranda, who had been traded over to the other side!
Nash gave the order, “Move out immediately!”

Mrs. Quintana, now terrified, quickly changed her tone. “Young lady, let’s talk this over. You’re in my hands now, and there’s no escaping. Don’t make things worse for yourself.”
Nina responded, “If I let you go, I’ll die even faster. Since you’re in charge here, as long as I have you, I won’t die so easily. You don’t want to suffer, do you? If not, tell them to back off!”
The barbs on the whip slightly pricked Mrs. Quintana’s neck, causing her some pain.
Seeing she wasn’t speaking, Nina applied more pressure. “Not talking?”
“I’ll talk, I’ll talk,” Mrs. Quintana said quickly. “You all step back. Don’t scare the girl. My life is in her hands.”
The men looked at each other, uncertain of what to do.
To be safe, Nina instructed, “Stand to the side. No talking, no leaving.”
“Young lady, why are you doing this?” Mrs. Quintana asked. “You’ve got no future here. You might as well accept your fate.”
Mrs. Quintana tried to manipulate Nina, but Nina wasn’t having any of it. “With you in my hands, I have a future.”
“What do you want?”
Nina glanced at the young girl whose fingers were raw and bloody, cowering in a corner, too weak to resist. “This child’s hands are injured. Shouldn’t she get medical attention first?”
Nina’s words left everyone in shock.
“Young lady, you clearly don’t understand where you are,” Mrs. Quintana sneered. “If we cared about treating her injuries, she wouldn’t have been brought here in the first place. People who come here either end up crippled or dead. Their lives are worthless.”
This place was truly brutal and inhumane. Human lives were worth less than dogs.
Nina couldn’t stand it. IIer arm ached from holding this position. She noticed the table covered with various torture instruments, picked up a dagger, and released the whip.
Seeing her chance, Mrs. Quintana tried to escape but froze.
Nina stood behind her, the dagger pressed against her side. “Don’t move. I haven’t given permission. You think you can run away? Do you want to die?”
Mrs. Quintana realized Nina was not to be trifled with and smiled nervously. “I wasn’t trying to run. My back hurts. Let’s talk this through. We can’t stand here forever.”
Nina replied, “I have a few questions. Answer them honestly.”

“What is this place?”
Mrs. Quintana smiled. “This is where we keep slaves. Once you come here, you’re not leaving.”
“Slaves?” Nina was shocked. “What century are we in? There are still slaves? You must have some nerve. Aren’t you afraid of getting caught?”
