“You’re so brave, honey. And that lady over there is brave too. She must’ve had a rough patch. Don’t tease her.” The little boy’s mom replied and led him away.
Kids often just scratch the surface, but adults see deeper. If it was just a simple tumble, she wouldn’t be crying her heart out like that.
It’s clear she’s dealing with something more, using the fall as an excuse to have a good
cry.
Gasping for breath, Hertha’s vision blurred by tears. She watched the mother and son walk away, blinking tears that fell from her eyes.
Looking at her palm, she could see the abrasions where the stone had cut her.
Sure, it hurt, but not enough to cry over. Hertha wiped away her tears, flicked the pebbles from her hand and clenched her aching palm.
She took a deep breath, trying to ease her pain
No matter how deeply she breathed, the heaviness in her chest and the suffocating ache persisted, making her eyes uncontrollably well up with tears.
She had never imagined that Alaric sleeping with Georgia would hit her so hard, her heart, felt as if it had been scooped out.
Hertha was usually laid-back and lively, rarely one to weep.
But this time, tears flowed freely.
From the distance, a tall figure approached. The figure bent down to look at Hertha, surprise in his voice, “Hertha, is that really you?”
Hearing her name, Hertha looked up abruptly, her eyes meeting Spencer’s refined, handsome face, concern shining behind his glasses.
Seeing a familiar face only made her more flustered. She quickly wiped her tears and turned her face away.
But her attempt to hide was too hasty, and Spencer still saw the tears on her face and the blood in her palm. His expression immediately filled with worry as he grasped her hand and asked, “What happened to your hand?”
Hertha tried to pull away, but when she couldn’t free herself, she just slumped down and blinked back tears, “Nothing, just took a fall.”
Spencer examined her palm, noting the gravel-imprinted cut and glanced at her knees, which were scraped too, blood mixing with dirt trickling down.

just ahead. Wait here, I’ll go get some iodine for you.”
His eyes conveyed urgency as he let go of Hertha’s hand and hurried to the pharmacy.
When he returned with the iodine, he found Hertha still sitting on the same place. Unconsciously, his tense heart relaxed a bit.
He sat beside her, unscrewed the cap of the iodine bottle and dipped a cotton swab in it. Then he gently dabbed at the wounds on her knees.
He was careful, but still worried about causing her pain, so he looked up gently asking,
“Does it hurt?”
Hertha shook her head and managed a smile, Crying over a fall, I must look pretty pathetic, right?”
She felt embarrassed to be seen crying by Spencer.
If anyone found out the real reason for her tears, she’d probably be laughed at even more.
After her self-conscious question, she heard Spencer respond, “No, anyone who falls and hurts themselves would feel like crying. It’s just a natural human response.”
Hertha’s tears turned into a laughter, “I’ve never heard anyone say that crying is actually a good thing.”
Seeing her smile, Spencer’s expression also softened into a smile.
