Annoyed, Sherilyn tossed her phone aside and turned over to sleep.
When the sky began to lighten, she woke up and checked the time – it was 5 AM.
Had Gilbert really not come home all night?
Sherilyn stretched her arms, stood up, and felt her stomach grumble with hunger.
Heading downstairs, she thought of warming up some milk. Hearing some noise at the front door, she wondered… Was the cleaning lady here this early? “Fidelia, is that you?”
Walking over, she realized it wasn’t Fidelia, but Gilbert… He had returned.
Their eyes met unexpectedly, Gilbert with a slight smile, not saying a word, shifting his gaze away as he brushed past her shoulder.
“Gilbert.” Sherilyn quickly called out to him.
She had been waiting for him to return, there were things that needed to be said, hopefully, they could conclude everything today.
“You called?” Gilbert turned around, a low chuckle in his voice, “What is it?”
Before Sherilyn could reply, he continued, “You wouldn’t seek me out if it wasn’t important. Speak up, what is it?”
He reeked of alcohol and perfume, making Sherilyn frown.
“I was wondering… Can I move out of Golden Oak Manor? Are we… breaking up?”

Gilbert’s deep eyes fixed on her, his fatigue and the slight drunkenness dissipating in the moment.
His eyebrows slightly raised, “Did I ever mention ‘breaking up’?”
Sherilyn met his gaze calmly, “You didn’t come home last night. Weren’t you with Callie? I saw the status she posted…”
It was a copy of a love announcement made by a famous actress some years ago!

Realization dawned on Gilbert. He hadn’t checked social media, but he could guess Callie had posted something suggestive.
But he had nothing to hide. What could Callie possibly post that was over the line?
“Ha, haha!” After a moment of
silence, Gilbert looked at her

Gilbert’s smile suddenly vanished, and he grabbed her shoulders fiercely.
In a harsh tone, he said, “To leave me, you first degrade yourself, and now you accuse me of being a womanizer?”

Sherilyn was shocked. What was he saying… she degraded herself?
The man’s expression was cold, his jaw tight.
“How could you say the child isn’t mine!”
Suddenly, he lifted his hand to her chin, forcing her to look into his eyes.
“Look at me, straight into my eyes. Do you dare to say again the child isn’t mine?”
His hand moved down, gently
caressing her slender neck with an almost imperceptible warning, “Think carefully before you speak!”

Sherilyn couldn’t help but shiver, terrified by the ferocity in his gaze, speechless. “Why so silent?”
