Chapter 9 InterrogationĀ
I was taken aback by his audacious statement and wondered if Lilly had arranged male escorts for my entertainment. Under the influence of alcohol, I approached the man and retorted, āWell, weāll see if I can keep myself amused. I promptly left after uttering those words. I had no interest in men like him, particularly those with hidden agendas. Lilly hurried back to me as soon as she noticed my departure.Ā
āIāve had enough for the night, and I need to head home now,ā I said, clutching my throbbing head. I was feeling quite dizzy, and I knew my mother would scold me if I returned home excessively drunk.Ā
āMe too: I have work tomorrow,ā Sammy chimed in. I was clear from her tone that she was not fond of her job.Ā
Lilly pouted and protested, āCome on, the night is still young, and itās no fun being alone. Fine, Iāll leave too. We departed after Lilly settled the bill.Ā
We hailed a cab, and before we went our separate ways, Lilly teased, āDo you think Henry would be jealous if he knew you were out drinking with a bunch of attractive men?āĀ
āOh, please donāt mention his name,ā I replied, waving her goodbye.Ā
āHehe, bye!ā Lillyās inexplicable cheerfulness puzzled me. I instructed Lewis to leave and decided to rest my eyes. Suddenly, I was jolted awake when Lewis abruptly hit the brakes just as we were nearing home. āWhatās happening?ā I asked.Ā
āItās Mr. Pattersonās car, Maāam,ā Lewis responded, pointing at the vehicle ahead. I rubbed my forehead, wondering what Henry was doing here. āAlright, just drive my car home, Lewis. Itās late,ā I instructed.Ā
āOf course,ā Lewis replied before driving off.Ā
I was a mere five minutes away from my home, and I decided to ignore Henry and walk the rest of the way. However, he stormed out of his car and blocked my path. He thrust his phone in my face and demanded, āCare to explain?āĀ
On the screen was a video of me flirting with the man I had met outside the restroom. The footage. showed me standing uncomfortably close to him. It turned out that Lilly had shared the video, captioning it, āThere are always more fish in the vast ocean of men.āĀ
I laughed and responded, āImpressive.āĀ
āRamona!ā Henry bellowed.Ā
āI thought you said we could do whatever we want. Why are you interrogating me now?ā I retorted.Ā
Henry scoffed and replied, āYes, but that doesnāt mean you can broadcast everything to the world.āĀ
I had nearly forgotten that we shared mutual friends on social media. Anything Lilly posted would be visible to them, and given his influential position, any public humiliation would undoubtedly tarnish his reputation. Men despise being publicly shamed, especially someone as prideful as Henry. I finally understood Lillyās earlier giddiness; she had shared the post deliberately. āAlright, Iāll tell Lilly to stop sharing things I conceded. I was too dizzy to argue with Henry and just wanted to sleen. I turned toĀ

his arm. Henry was taken aback by my reaction, but he didnāt loosen his grip. He let me bite him. His arm was firm, and biting it felt oddly satisfying.Ā
āHave you lost your mind?ā Henry finally snapped back to reality, grabbing my neck and prying me away from his arm, leaving a deep bite mark.Ā
My heart ached as 1 looked at him. I had harbored feelings for him for so long, yet I had never left a mark on him. In my previous life, I had seen Violet leave countless hickeys on him. They must have been deeply in love. I was making peace with myself as I left a mark on him. āHenry, you have no right to interrogate me! Youāve been linked with countless women over the years! Itās humiliating for me!ā I wiped my lips, tasting blood.Ā
He retorted coldly, āArenāt you the one who asked for this? Did anyone force you to marry me?āĀ
Of course not. I would have forced myself to marry him. I had always hoped that he would fall in love with me after witnessing my affection for him. āYes, I asked for it. But people change. Iām not as naive as I used to be. Understand?āĀ
āNo!ā He snorted, āYou have to face the consequences of your wrong choices.āĀ
āHenry, do you believe that youāll be asking for a divorce in the near future? And youāll wish that I could vanish from your life.ā A year was not that long: I was willing to bet on itĀ
He looked at me, puzzled, and asked, āRamona, what nonsense are you spouting?āĀ
He was indeed vindictive. He didnāt mind hurting himself in the process of hurting me. I said, āWhy donāt you believe me? Look, you will want me to leave soon, and Iām telling you that I drank too much. tonight and I just want to sleep. Can you just leave, please?āĀ
āCome with me.ā He effortlessly picked me up and placed me in his car. He didnāt allow me to stay at my parentsā home.Ā
I protested vehemently, yelling, āNo, I donāt want to! Open the door!ā He glanced at me and ignored my pleas. He quickly drove away from my house. I glared at him and demanded, āTake me home! I forgot something!āĀ
āWhat is it?ā he asked.Ā
āMy medication,ā I replied. Is it so hard for me to take my medicine?Ā
āAre you dying?Ā
He was socially inept. No wonder many people wish for his downfall. Especially those he has wronged in the past. I smiled and replied, āNot really. Iām underweight. I just want to be a healthy and curvaceous woman.āĀ
Something seemed to click in his mind, and his expression darkened.Ā
